System and method responsive to an event detected at a glucose monitoring device

Abstract

Embodiments include an apparatua responsive to an event detected at a glucose monitoring device. The apparatus includes circuitry to select an action to occur remote to the glucose monitoring device in response to the event. Embodiments include a response center responsive to an event at a glucose monitoring device to contact a person in response to the event.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method of processing at a communication center an alarm event detected at a glucose alarm device that is remote from the communication center, comprising:
 receiving an alarm event indication from the remote glucose alarm device; and   initiating a contact with at least one person in response to the alarm event indication.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the at least one person is designated by a user of the glucose alarm device. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the at least one person is contacted by at least one of telephone, email, text message, paging and instant messaging. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the at least one person is one of the user of the glucose alarm device, a parent of the user of the glucose alarm device, and a health care professional. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the communication center is connected to the glucose alarm device via the Internet. 
     
     
         6 . A response center, comprising:
 an interface configured to communicate with a remote glucose alarm device;   a memory configured to store an alarm event indication received from the remote glucose alarm device; and   a processor configured to initiate contact with at least one person when the alarm event indication is received indicating an alarm event at the glucose alarm device.   
     
     
         7 . The response center of  claim 6 , wherein the processor is further configured to select one of a plurality of methods to contact the person. 
     
     
         8 . The response center of  claim 6 , wherein the interface includes a wireless interface to enable wireless communication with the response center. 
     
     
         9 . The response center of  claim 6 , wherein the at least one person to contact depends upon a type of alarm event at the glucose alarm device. 
     
     
         10 . The response center of  claim 6 , wherein the processor is further configured to generate a message to send to at least one of the at least one person. 
     
     
         11 . The response center of  claim 10 , wherein a content of the message depends upon a type of the alarm event. 
     
     
         12 . The response center of  claim 10 , wherein the message includes an identity of a user of the glucose alarm device. 
     
     
         13 . The response center of  claim 10 , wherein the message includes a telephone number of a user of the glucose alarm device. 
     
     
         14 . A response center, comprising:
 a memory configured to store information concerning a plurality of glucose alarm devices, the information including, for each glucose alarm device, a location of the glucose alarm device, an identity of a user of the glucose alarm device, and a telephone number of the user;   a processor configured to:
 receive a signal from a glucose alarm device via the Internet, the signal indicating an alarm event at one of a glucose monitoring device and an insulin pump; and 
 notify a person of the alarm event. 
   
     
     
         15 . The response center of  claim 14 , wherein notifying a person of the alarm event includes notifying the person of the identity of the user and the telephone number of the user. 
     
     
         16 . The response center of  claim 14 , wherein the processor is further configured to receive a message from the person. 
     
     
         17 . The response center of  claim 16 , wherein the message is forwarded to the user via the response center. 
     
     
         18 . The response center of  claim 14 , wherein the processor is further configured to receive a message from the user. 
     
     
         19 . The response center of  claim 18 , wherein the message is forwarded to the person via the response center. 
     
     
         20 . The response center of  claim 14 , wherein the processor is further configured to notify persons in succession until a message is received from a notified person.
