Abstract

Coating compositions comprising a polyurea formed from a reaction mixture comprising: (a) a first component comprising an isocyanate, the first component having a viscosity of ≦2000 centipoise at a temperature ≧7° C.; and (b) a second component comprising an amine. Substrates coated at least in part with such a composition are also disclosed. Footwear coated at least in part with polyurea are also disclosed.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A coating composition comprising a polyurea formed from a reaction mixture comprising:
 (a) a first component comprising an isocyanate, the first component having a viscosity of ≦2000 centipoise at a temperature ≧7° C., wherein the isocyanate comprises an isocyanate functional prepolymer formed from a reaction mixture comprising an initial isocyanate and a material comprising a phosphorus-containing polyol; and (b) a second component comprising an amine, wherein the second component has a viscosity of ≦1700 centipoise at a temperature ≧7° C.

2 . The coating composition according to claim 1 , wherein the initial isocyanate comprises a polyfunctional isocyanate resin comprising diphenylmethane diisocyanate, toluene diisocyanate, hexamethylene diisocyanate, isophorone diisocyanate, or combinations thereof.

3 . The coating composition according to claim 1 , wherein the isocyanate further comprises a non-prepolymer isocyanate that is substantially compatible with the isocyanate functional prepolymer.

4 . The coating composition according to claim 1 , wherein the phosphorus-containing polyol is a reaction product of reactants comprising a phosphorus-containing acid and an epoxy functional compound.

5 . The coating composition according to claim 4 , wherein the phosphorus-containing acid comprises phenyl phosphonic acid, methyl phosphonic acid, ethyl phosphonic acid, propyl phosphoric acid, butyl phosphonic acid, or combinations thereof.

6 . The coating composition according to claim 4 , wherein the epoxy functional compound comprises ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, 1,2-epoxybutane, butyl glycidyl ether, neodecanoic acid glycidyl ester, or combinations thereof.

7 . The coating composition according to claim 4 , wherein the reactants further comprise an initial phosphorus-containing polyol.

8 . The coating composition according to claim 7 , wherein the initial phosphorus-containing polyol comprises a phosphate polyol, a polyphosphate polyol, a phosphite polyol, a polyphosphite polyol, a phosphonate polyol, a polyphosphonate polyol, or combinations thereof.

9 . The coating composition according to claim 1 , wherein the phosphorus-containing polyol is a reaction product of reactants comprising an initial phosphorus-containing polyol and an epoxy functional compound.

10 . The coating composition according to claim 1 , wherein the amine comprises a cycloaliphatic amine, a linear aliphatic amine, an aliphatic polyetheramine, an aromatic amine, an aspartic ester amine, or combinations thereof.

11 . The coating composition according to claim 1 , wherein a ratio of equivalents of isocyanate groups to equivalents of amine groups is greater than 1.

12 . The coating composition according to claim 1 , wherein the material comprising the phosphorus-containing polyol is a flame retardant material, and wherein the coating composition further comprises an additional flame retardant material.

13 . A method for coating a substrate comprising applying the coating composition according to claim 1 to at least a portion of the substrate.

14 . A substrate coated at least in part with the coating composition according to claim 1 .

15 . Footwear comprising a component that is coated at least in part with the coating composition according to claim 1 .

16 . The footwear according to claim 15 , wherein the component comprises a footwear upper component, a polymeric bladder, or a combination thereof.

17 . The footwear according to claim 15 , wherein the coating composition further comprises an adhesion promoter, polyurethane, or a combination thereof.

18 . Footwear comprising a component comprising the coating composition according to claim 1 .

19 . The footwear according to claim 18 , wherein the component comprises a midsole, an outsole, or a combination thereof.

20 . The footwear according to claim 18 , wherein the component further comprises a filler.
