Abstract

This is directed to recommending media items of a user's media library. In particular, this is directed to transferring a portion of the user's media library to an electronic device so that the user may discover the portion of the media library. The library can recommend particular media items to the user using any suitable approach, including for example based on one or more preference profiles. The user can accept or reject recommended media items as they are played back to further adjust the user's preference profile, and to revise the selection of recommended media items stored on the device.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 12 . (canceled)

13 . A method for selecting media items from a media library to recommend to a user, the method comprising:
determining with the electronic device a plurality of recommended media items from a media library; transmitting with the electronic device at least one recommended media item of the plurality of recommended media items from the media library to an external device, wherein the at least one recommended media item as transmitted does not comprise every media item of the determined plurality of recommended media items; receiving with the electronic device initial feedback information for the at least one recommended media from the external device; and in response to receiving the initial feedback information, transmitting with the electronic device the remaining media items of the determined plurality of recommended media items to the external device.

14 . The method of claim 13 , further comprising:
identifying with the electronic device a user-defined set of media items of the media library to transmit to the external device; and transmitting the user-defined set of media items to the electronic device.

15 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising:
determining with the electronic device that at least one previously recommended media item is to be added to the user-defined set of media items; and changing with the electronic device the user-defined set of media items to include the at least one previously recommended media item.

16 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising:
changing with the electronic device the user-defined set of media items as identified to include a plurality of additional media items, wherein each media item of the plurality of additional media items is similar to the at least one previously recommended media item.

17 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising:
identifying with the electronic device a pre-defined storage amount for the user-defined set of media items as identified; and removing at least one previously stored media item from the user-defined set of media items to ensure that the changed user-defined set of media items does not exceed the pre-defined storage amount as identified.

18 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the received feedback information comprises a user approval of the at least one recommended media item as transmitted.

19 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the determined plurality of recommended media items do not comprise any media items of the identified user-defined set of media items.

         20 . The method of claim 13 , wherein:
the plurality of media items as determined does not comprise any media items that are already stored in the external device.

21 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the initial feedback information is at least one of:
an approval of the at least one recommended media item; an indicator of whether the at least one recommended media item was played back or skipped; and a user ranking of the at least one recommended media item.

         22 . The method of claim 13 , wherein:
the at least one recommended media item comprises metadata; and the transmitting the at least one recommended media item comprises modifying the metadata.

23 . An electronic device, comprising:
a storage device configure to store a media library including media items; communications circuitry configured to communicate with an external device; and a processor configured to:
 determine a plurality of recommended media items from a media library;
 cause the communications circuitry to transmit at least one recommended media item of the plurality of recommended media items from the media library to an external device, wherein the at least one recommended media item does not comprise every media item of the determined plurality of recommended media items;
receive, via the communications circuitry, initial feedback information for the at least one recommended media from the external device; and
in response to receiving the initial feedback information, cause the communication circuitry to transmit the remaining media items of the determined plurality of recommended media items to the external device.

24 . The electronic device of claim 23 , wherein the processor is further configured to:
identify a user-defined set of media items of the media library to transmit to the external device; and cause the communications circuitry to transmit the user-defined set of media items to the electronic device.

25 . The electronic device of claim 24 , wherein the processor is further configured to:
determine that at least one previously recommended media item is to be added to the user-defined set of media items; and changing the user-defined set of media items to include the at least one previously recommended media item.

26 . The electronic device of claim 25 , wherein the processor is further configured to:
change with the electronic device the user-defined set of media items as identified to include a plurality of additional media items, wherein each media item of the plurality of additional media items is similar to the at least one previously recommended media item.

27 . The electronic device of claim 25 , wherein the processor is further configured to:
identify a pre-defined storage amount for the user-defined set of media items as identified; and remove at least one previously stored media item from the user-defined set of media items to ensure that the changed user-defined set of media items does not exceed the pre-defined storage amount as identified.

28 . The electronic device of claim 23 , wherein the received feedback information comprises a user approval of the at least one recommended media item as transmitted.

29 . The electronic device of claim 24 , wherein the determined plurality of recommended media items do not comprise any media items of the identified user-defined set of media items.

30 . The electronic device of claim 23 , wherein the plurality of media items as determined does not comprise any media items that are already stored in the external device.

31 . The electronic device of claim 23 , wherein the initial feedback information is at least one of:
an approval of the at least one recommended media item; an indication of whether the at least one recommended media item was played back or skipped; and a user ranking of the at least one recommended media item.

32 . The electronic device of claim 23 , wherein:
the at least one recommended media item comprises metadata; and the processor is configured to cause the communications circuitry to transmit the at least one recommended media item, at least in part, by modifying the metadata.
