Abstract

A power transmission switching device includes a power shaft that is rotationally driven, a power transmission unit that is displaced between first and second positions positioned in an axial direction of the power shaft, a first positioning member that positions the power transmission unit in the first position, and a second positioning member that positions the power transmission unit in the second position. Any one or both of the switching of the connection and non-connection between the power shaft and the power transmission unit and the switching of the connection and non-connection between the power transmission unit and a driven part using the power shaft as a power source are performed by the switching of the position of the power transmission unit. The power transmission unit has at least one middle position between the first and second positions, and is held in the middle position by a holding unit.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A recording apparatus comprising:
a recording head which performs recording on a recording medium; a moving member which reciprocates and which holds the recording head; a power source; a plurality of specified mechanisms which are driven by the power source; a power transmission unit which transmits selectively the power from the power source to one of the specified mechanisms, and a moving region of the moving member which includes a first region in which the recording head performs recording on the recording medium and a second region in which the moving member operates the power transmission unit so as to prohibit transmission of the power from the power source to all of the specified mechanisms from the power transmission unit.

         2 . A recording apparatus according to claim 1 ,
wherein a state of prohibiting the transmission of the power from the power source is maintained after the moving member operates the power transmission unit in the second region and moves away to the first region from the power transmission unit.

         3 . A recording apparatus according to claim 2 ,
wherein the state of prohibiting the transmission of the power from the power source is released by the moving member which moves to the second region from the first region and operates the power transmission unit.
