Abstract

Use of an orally or nasally available formulation of Tretazicar for poisoning vermin. An orally available or nasally available formulation of Tretazicar, wherein in the orally available formulation the Tretazicar is protected from acid hydrolysis, and provided that the formulation is not solid Tretazicar in a gelatin capsule. A formulation of Tretazicar in which the Tretazicar is protected from acid hydrolysis, wherein the formulation is present in a liquid form. A combination of Tretazicar and bait. A method of poisoning vermin comprising making available to the vermin an orally or nasally available formulation of Tretazicar and allowing the vermin to ingest or inhale the formulation of Tretazicar.

1 . A formulation of Tretazicar, other than solid Tretazicar in a gelatin capsule,
 wherein the Tretazicar is orally available and the Tretazicar is protected from acid hydrolysis, or   wherein the Tretaizcar is nasally available.   
     
     
         2 . The formulation of  claim 1  wherein the Tretazicar is protected from acid hydrolysis, and the formulation is in a liquid form. 
     
     
         3 . The formulation of  claim 2  wherein the Tretazicar is encapsulated or coated. 
     
     
         4 . The formulation of  claim 3  wherein the Tretazicar is encapsulated in microcapsules. 
     
     
         5 . The formulation of  claim 4  wherein the microcapsules comprise a component selected from gelatin, starch, waxes, cellulose acetate phthalate, polyvinyl acetate phthalate, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose phthalate, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose acetate succinate, methacrylic acid copolymers and mixtures thereof. 
     
     
         6 . A combination of Tretazicar and bait. 
     
     
         7 . The combination of  claim 6  which is inhalable. 
     
     
         8 . The combination of  claim 6  which is orally ingestible. 
     
     
         9 . The combination of  claim 8  wherein the bait comprises a foodstuff. 
     
     
         10 . The combination of  claim 8  wherein the composition is edible by a rodent. 
     
     
         11 . The combination of  claim 8  wherein the Tretazicar is protected from acid hydrolysis. 
     
     
         12 . The combination of  claim 6  comprising a solution of Tretazicar mixed with the bait. 
     
     
         13 . The combination of  claim 12  wherein the solution is an oil solution. 
     
     
         14 . The combination of  claim 13  wherein the oil is a peanut oil or vegetable oil. 
     
     
         15 . The combination of  claim 8  which is adapted to resist release of the Tretazicar until it reaches the intestine of vermin, when ingested by vermin. 
     
     
         16 . The combination of  claim 15  wherein the Tretazicar is encapsulated in microcapsules. 
     
     
         17 . The combination of  claim 16  wherein the microcapsules comprise a component selected from gelatin, starch, waxes cellulose acetate phthalate, polyvinyl acetate phthalate, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose phthalate, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose acetate succinate, methacrylic acid copolymers and mixtures thereof. 
     
     
         18 . A method of poisoning vermin which comprises making available to the vermin the formulation of  claim 1  and allowing the vermin to ingest or inhale the formulation of Tretazicar. 
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 18  wherein the formulation of Tretazicar is provided at a site frequented by vermin. 
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 18  wherein the amount of Tretazicar made available is sufficient to kill at least one vermin. 
     
     
         21 . The method of  claim 18  wherein the amount of Tretazicar made available to the vermin at a single site is at least 100 mg. 
     
     
         22 . The method of  claim 18  wherein the Tretazicar is protected from acid hydrolysis. 
     
     
         23 . The method of  claim 18  wherein the formulation of Tretazicar comprises bait. 
     
     
         24 . The method of  claim 23  wherein the formulation of Tretazicar comprises a solution of Tretazicar mixed with the bait. 
     
     
         25 . The method of  claim 24  wherein the orally available formulation of Tretazicar comprises an oil solution of Tretazicar mixed with bait. 
     
     
         26 . The method of  claim 25  wherein the oil is peanut oil or vegetable oil. 
     
     
         27 . The method of  claim 18  wherein the orally available formulation of Tretazicar is formulated to resist release of the Tretazicar until it reaches the intestine of the vermin, when ingested by vermin and wherein the formulation is mixed with bait. 
     
     
         28 . The method of  claim 27  wherein the Tretazicar is encapsulated in microcapsules prior to mixing with the bait. 
     
     
         29 . The method of  claim 28  wherein the microcapsules comprise a component selected from gelatin, starch, waxes cellulose acetate phthalate, polyvinyl acetate phthalate, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose phthalate, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose acetate succinate, methacrylic acid copolymers and mixtures thereof. 
     
     
         30 . The method of poisoning vermin which comprises making available to the vermin the combination of  claim 6 . 
     
     
         31 . The method of poisoning vermin which comprises making available to the vermin the combination of  claim 8 . 
     
     
         32 . The method of poisoning vermin which comprises making available to the vermin the combination of  claim 9 .
