Abstract

An article of flashing for a deck includes a channel with a back leg, a first side leg, and a second side leg and further includes an attachment flange fixedly connected to the channel where the channel is adapted to receive decking. A deck flashing system includes a deck with a surface and at least one edge, decking forming the surface of the deck, and flashing extending along the at least one edge, the flashing having a channel adapted to receive the decking. A method of trimming a deck includes erecting deck framing, installing decking on the framing, and installing flashing on at least one edge or the entire perimeter of the deck.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 20 . (canceled)

21 . A deck structure having a surface and an edge adjacent a structure, comprising:
a plurality of joists; decking arranged on the plurality of joists and forming the surface of the deck; a ledger board arranged along the edge adjacent the structure and securely fastened to the structure, the ledger board having a top supporting a portion of the decking and a side, the plurality of joists framing into the side of the ledger board; and an article of flashing comprising an elongate member having a substantially constant cross-section along its length, the cross-section comprising a channel shape including a back leg, a first side leg, and a second side leg,
       wherein:
the article of flashing is arranged along the top of the ledger board and is secured to the structure; and
a portion of the decking is positioned within the channel-shaped cross-section of the article of flashing.

22 . The deck structure of claim 21 , further comprising a siding flange secured to the channel shape and extending generally away from the channel shape and substantially aligned with the back leg.

23 . The deck structure of claim 21 , wherein the article of flashing comprises a height, the decking comprises a thickness, and the height is substantially equal to the thickness.

24 . The deck structure of claim 21 , wherein the portion of the decking is spaced from the back leg defining a gap therebetween and allowing for expansion and contraction of the decking relative to the article of flashing.

25 . The deck structure of claim 21 , wherein the second leg comprises a heel and a toe and the article of flashing further comprises an attachment flange extending from the toe of the second leg.

26 . The deck structure of claim 25 , wherein the attachment flange extends generally perpendicular to the second leg.

27 . The deck structure of claim 25 , wherein the ledger board comprises an inner surface and the attachment flange extends generally perpendicular to the second leg and along the inner surface of the ledger board.

28 . The deck structure of claim 21 , wherein the legs of the channel-shaped cross-section are substantially uninterrupted.

29 . The deck structure of claim 21 , wherein the article of flashing comprises a non-corrosive material.

30 . The deck structure of claim 29 , wherein the non-corrosive material comprises one of stainless steel and vinyl.

31 . The deck structure of claim 29 , wherein the article of flashing comprises one of aluminum and galvanized metal.

32 . The deck structure of claim 22 , wherein the structure comprises a wall having exterior sheathing and siding arranged thereon and the siding flange is arranged between the sheathing and the siding.

33 . The deck structure of claim 32 , wherein the first leg is spaced from the second leg to define a standoff distance for the siding relative to the top of the ledger board.

34 . The deck structure of claim 22 , wherein the article of flashing is secured to the structure with the siding flange.

35 . The deck structure of claim 34 , wherein the article of flashing is secured to the structure with fasteners penetrating the siding flange.

36 . The deck structure of claim 22 , wherein the siding flange is arranged substantially perpendicularly to the first leg.
