Claims

Abstract

An illumination device of a display device is configured such that heat of light-emitting elements is dissipated via a light source substrate, a light source support member made of a metal, and a first frame made of a metal. The illumination device also includes a second frame made of a resin that is disposed such that a closed space is formed along the light source support member between the frame and the light source support member. The second frame has an opening portion that communicates with the closed space, and the first frame and a third frame each has an opening portion at a position that overlaps the opening portion of the second frame, thereby allowing heat of the light-emitting elements to be dissipated through the closed space and an opening which is formed by opening portions.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A display device having an illumination device and a display panel that is disposed above a light exiting surface of the illumination device, the illumination device comprising:
 a light guide plate;   a light-emitting element being opposite to a side end face of the light guide plate, the side end face serving as a light incident portion;   a light source substrate that has a first surface on which the light-emitting element mounted and a second surface which is positioned opposite to the first surface, the first surface being opposite to the side end face;   a light source support member made of a metal that includes a support portion and a lower portion, wherein the support portion includes a third surface and a fourth surface which is positioned opposite to the third surface, the second surface of the light source substrate is attached to the third surface, the lower portion includes a first portion located on opposite side of the light guide plate with respect to the support portion; and   a frame that includes a bottom plate supporting the light guide plate and a first side plate such that a space is formed surrounded by the first side plate, the support portion and the lower portion,   wherein the display device has an opening through which the space communicates with an outside of the display device.   
     
     
         2 . The display device according to  claim 1 :
 the frame comprising a first frame portion made of a metal and a second frame portion made of a resin that holds the display panel and has a first end plate that covers the light source support member on a side of the light exiting surface,   wherein the opening is formed on at least one of the first frame portion and the second frame portion.   
     
     
         3 . The display device according to  claim 2 ,
 wherein the second frame portion includes a second side plate that overlaps the first side plate,   wherein a first opening portion is formed on the first frame portion and a second opening portion is formed on the second frame portion such that the first opening portion overlaps the second opening portion.   
     
     
         4 . The display device according to  claim 3 , further comprising a third frame portion including a second end plate that overlaps an outer side of the first end plate and a third side plate that overlaps an outer side of the second side plate,
 wherein a third opening portion is formed on the third frame portion such that the third opening portion overlaps the second opening portion.   
     
     
         5 . The display device according to  claim 1 :
 the frame comprising a first frame portion made of a metal and a third frame portion;   wherein the third frame portion includes a second end plate that covers the display panel on a side of the light exiting surface and is positioned such that the light source support member is disposed between the bottom plate and the second end plate,   wherein the opening is formed on at least one of the first frame portion and the third frame portion.   
     
     
         6 . The display device according to  claim 1 ,
 wherein the opening is formed on an extended line of the space.   
     
     
         7 . The display device according to  claim 1 ,
 wherein the opening is opposed to the fourth surface.   
     
     
         8 . The display device according to  claim 7 ,
 wherein the opening is formed at a plurality of positions that are spaced apart in an extending direction of the space.   
     
     
         9 . The display device according to  claim 1 ,
 wherein an opening area of the opening is greater than an opening area of the space.   
     
     
         10 . The display device according to  claim 1 ,
 wherein the opening has a predetermined width in an extending direction of the first side plate.   
     
     
         11 . The display device according to  claim 1 ,
 wherein each of two opposed side end faces of the light guide plate serves as the light incident portion, a first space and a first opening are formed at one side of the two opposed side end faces, and a second space and a second opening are formed at the other side of the two opposed side end faces.   
     
     
         12 . The display device according to  claim 11 ,
 wherein, the first opening formed opposite to one side of the two opposed side end faces, and the second opening formed on an extended line of the second space.   
     
     
         13 . An electronic apparatus comprising the display device according to  claim 1 . 
     
     
         14 . An illumination device comprising:
 a light guide plate;   a light-emitting element being opposite to a side end face of the light guide plate, the side end face serving as a light incident portion;   a light source substrate that has a first surface on which the light-emitting element mounted and a second surface which is positioned opposite to the first surface, the first surface being opposite to the side end face;   a light source support member made of a metal that includes a support portion and a lower portion, wherein the support portion includes a third surface and a fourth surface which is positioned opposite to the third surface, the second surface of the light source substrate is attached to the third surface, the lower portion includes a first portion located on opposite side of the light guide plate with respect to the support portion; and   a frame that includes a bottom plate supporting the light guide plate and a first side plate such that a space is formed surrounded by the first side plate, the support portion and the lower portion;   wherein the illumination device has an opening through which the space communicates with an outside of the illumination device.   
     
     
         15 . The display device according to  claim 1 ,
 wherein the lower potion includes a second portion located on opposite side of the first portion with respect to the support portion.   
     
     
         16 . A display device according to  claim 15 ,
 wherein a part of the second portion is positioned between the light guide plate and the bottom plate.   
     
     
         17 . The display device according to  claim 1 ,
 wherein the light source support member includes an upper portion located on opposite side of the light guide plate with respect to the support portion.   
     
     
         18 . The display device according to  claim 17 ,
 the space is formed surrounded by the first side plate, the support portion, the first portion and the upper potion.   
     
     
         19 . The display device according to  claim 1 :
 the frame comprising a first frame portion made of a metal and a second frame portion made of a resin that holds the display panel and has a first end plate that covers the light source support member on a side of the light exiting surface,   wherein the second frame portion faces to the space.   
     
     
         20 . A display device having an illumination device and a display panel that is disposed above a light exiting surface of the illumination device, the illumination device comprising:
 a light guide plate;   a light-emitting element being opposite to a side end face of the light guide plate, the side end face serving as a light incident portion;   a light source substrate that has a first surface on which the light-emitting element mounted and a second surface which is positioned opposite to the first surface, the first surface being opposite to the side end face;   a light source support member made of a metal that includes a support portion and a lower portion, wherein the support portion includes a third surface and a fourth surface which is positioned opposite to the third surface, the second surface of the light source substrate is attached to the third surface, the lower portion includes a first portion located on opposite side of the light guide plate with respect to the support portion; and   a frame that includes a bottom plate supporting the light guide plate and a first side plate such that a space is formed surrounded by the first side plate, the support portion and the first portion.   
     
     
         21 . The display device according to  claim 20 ,
 the space communicates with an outside of the display device.   
     
     
         22 . A display device having an illumination device and a display panel that is disposed above a light exiting surface of the illumination device, the illumination device comprising:
 a light guide plate;   a light-emitting element being opposite to a side end face of the light guide plate, the side end face serving as a light incident portion;   a light source substrate that has a first surface on which the light-emitting element mounted and a second surface which is positioned opposite to the first surface, the light-emitting element being opposite to the side end face;   a light source support member made of a metal that includes a support portion and a lower portion, the lower portion includes a first portion located on opposite side of the light guide plate with respect to the support portion and an second potion located on opposite side of the first portion with respect to the support portion, and the light source substrate is attached to the second portion; and   a frame that includes a bottom plate supporting the light guide plate and a first side plate such that a space is formed surrounded by the first side plate, the support portion and the first portion.
