Sequential artwork design for contact lens packaging

Abstract

A contact lens package includes a substrate, a cover sheet, and a graphic. The substrate has a plurality of lens receiving portions each sized to hold a single contact lens. The cover sheet is removably secured to the substrate and configured to seal the contact lenses within the plurality of lens receiving portions. The graphic is positioned on the cover sheet and spans the plurality of lens receiving portions. The graphic, when viewed as a whole, has a discernable meaning and is separable into a plurality of portions associated with the individual lens receiving portions. Each of the plurality of portions of the graphic has a separate discernable meaning from the whole.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A contact lens package, comprising:
 a substrate having a plurality of lens receiving portions each sized to hold a single contact lens;   a cover sheet removably secured to the substrate and configured to seal the contact lenses within the plurality of lens receiving portions;   a graphic positioned on the cover sheet and spanning the plurality of lens receiving portions, the graphic when viewed as a whole has a discernable meaning, and is separable into a plurality of portions associated with individual lens receiving portions, wherein each portion of the graphic has a separate discernable meaning from the whole.   
     
     
         2 . The contact lens package of  claim 1 , wherein the graphic includes a text graphic and an image graphic, wherein the text graphic is divisible into a plurality of different words, and the image graphic spans all of the lens receiving portions. 
     
     
         3 . The contact lens package of  claim 1 , wherein the cover sheet is a laminate that includes at least one polymer layer, a light reflective layer, and the at least one graphic. 
     
     
         4 . The contact lens package of  claim 1 , wherein the substrate includes at least two lens receiving portions positioned adjacent to each other in series. 
     
     
         5 . The contact lens package of  claim 1 , wherein the substrate and cover sheet together define a plurality of individual lens package portions that are separable from each other and carry portions of the graphic. 
     
     
         6 . The contact lens package of  claim 1 , wherein the graphic includes a plurality of colors. 
     
     
         7 . A contact lens package, comprising:
 a plurality of individual lens packages releasably connected together, each of the individual lens packages includes a substrate that defines a lens receiving portion sized to receive a contact lens, and a cover sheet releasably connected to the substrate to seal the contact lens within the lens receiving portion;   a graphic spanning at least some of the plurality of releasably connected individual lens packages, the graphic comprising a plurality of separable portions having distinct, non-repeated meaning and that align with individual lens packages so that the individual lens packages, when separated, include a separable portion of the graphic with distinct meaning.   
     
     
         8 . The contact lens package of  claim 7 , wherein the graphic includes an image, and each of the separable portions of the graphic include a portion of the image. 
     
     
         9 . The contact lens package of  claim 7 , wherein the graphic includes text, and each of the separable portions of the graphic include a portion of the text. 
     
     
         10 . The contact lens package of  claim 9 , wherein the text includes a plurality of words, and each of the separable portions of the graphic include a separate word. 
     
     
         11 . The contact lens package of  claim 7 , wherein the graphic includes text and an image, the text being positioned on at least some of the individual lens packages, and the image spanning all of the individual lens packages. 
     
     
         12 . A method of providing graphics on a contact lens package, comprising:
 providing a contact lens package having a plurality of separable lens package portions each configured to releasably retain at least one contact lens, and a graphic carried by the contact lens package;   extending the graphic across the contact lens package, the graphic including a plurality of individual graphic portions aligned with the lens package portions;   wherein the graphic has a graphics pattern when the lens package portions are connected together, and the individual graphic portions each have individual meaning independent of the other individual graphics portions when the lens package portions are separated from each other.   
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 12 , wherein the graphics pattern includes a plurality of words. 
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 12 , wherein the graphics pattern includes a repeatable image. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 12 , wherein an attribute of the graphic provides an identifier for the contact lenses held in the contact lens package. 
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 12 , wherein the individual meaning of the individual graphic portions relates to at least one word depicted each individual graphic. 
     
     
         17 . A method of displaying graphics using a contact lens package, comprising:
 providing a contact lens package having a plurality of separable lens package portion each configured to retain at least one contact lens, and a graphic display having a plurality of divisible graphic portions and a combination graphic inclusive of the plurality of graphic portions;   displaying the combination graphic on the contact lens package when the lens package portions are connected together;   separating the lens package portions;   displaying at least one of the divisible graphic portions on each of the separated lens package portions.   
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 17 , wherein the contact lens package includes at least one perforation positioned between adjacent lens package portions, and separating the lens package portions includes disconnecting the lens package portions along the at least one perforation. 
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 17 , wherein the divisible graphic portions includes at least a portion of an image and at least one word. 
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 17 , wherein the contact lens package includes a substrate having a plurality of lens receiving portions, and a cover sheet releasably connected to the substrate to seal contact lenses within the lens receiving portions, and displaying the combination graphic on the contact lens package includes connecting the combination graphic to the cover sheet.
