Abstract

Disclosed herein is a bulk metallic glasses (BMG) comprising 0.0001 wt % to 0.7 wt % of Be, 0.0001 wt % to 0.2 wt % of Be, or 0.06 wt % to 0.08 wt % of Be. Be may have the effect of reducing a liquidus temperature of the BMG relative to melting temperatures of individual alloying elements of the BMG.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
We claim:

. A bulk metallic glasses (BMG) comprising about 0.0001 wt % to about 0.7 wt % of Be.

. The BMG of claim 1 , wherein the BMG comprises 0.0001 wt % to 0.2 wt % of Be.

. The BMG of claim 1 , wherein the BMG comprises 0.06 wt % to 0.08 wt % of Be.

. The BMG of claim 1 , wherein the Be is configured to reduce the liquidus temperature of the BMG relative to the melting temperatures of individual alloying elements of the BMG.

. The BMG of claim 1 , wherein the BMG comprises at least 0.04 wt % of elements selected from a group consisting of oxygen, carbon, nitrogen, and a combination thereof.

. The BMG of claim 1 , wherein the BMG is essentially free of Ti.

. The BMG of claim 1 , wherein the BMG comprises Zr, Al, Cu and Ni.

. The BMG of claim 1 , wherein the BMG comprises Zr, Ti, Cu, Ni and Al.

. The BMG of claim 1 , wherein the BMG comprises Zr, Nb, Cu, Ni and Al.

. The BMG of claim 1 , wherein the BMG is essentially free of iron, wherein the BMG is essentially free of nickel, wherein the BMG is essentially free of cobalt, wherein the BMG is essentially free of gold, wherein the BMG is essentially free of silver, wherein the BMG is essentially free of platinum, and/or wherein the BMG is not ferromagnetic.

. A bulk metallic glasses (BMG) comprising Be, wherein the BMG remains essentially amorphous in presence of oxygen of or above about 300 ppm.

. A method of making the BMG of claim 1 , comprising: adding Be or an alloy comprising Be into a feedstock of BMG that is essentially free of Be.

. A method of making the BMG of claim 1 , comprising: melting a mixture comprising Be.

. An article comprising a bulk metallic glasses (BMG), the BMG comprising about 0.0001 wt % to about 0.7 wt % of Be.

. The article of claim 14 , wherein the article is an electronic device.

. The article of claim 15 , wherein the electronic device comprises a display, a processor, and a memory.

. The article of claim 15 , wherein the electronic device is a mobile phone.

. The article of claim 15 , wherein the electronic device is a computer or a handheld device.

. The BMG of claim 1 , wherein BMG comprises about 66 wt % of Zr, about 16 wt % of Cu, about 12 wt % of Ni, about 3.5 wt % of Ti and about 3.7 wt % of Al.

. The article of claim 14 , wherein the article does not comprise any electronic component.

. The BMG of claim 1 , wherein BMG comprises about 68 wt % of Zr, about 6 wt % of Nb, about 12.8 wt % of Cu, about 9.7 wt % of Ni and about 3.5 wt % of Al.

. The BMG of claim 1 , wherein BMG comprises about 70 wt % of Zr, about 3.4 wt % of Nb, about 13.1 wt % of Cu, about 9.8 wt % of Ni and about 3.7 wt % of Al.
