Appetite regulating dietary supplement

Abstract

A dietary supplement for regulating the appetite of an individual is described. The dietary supplement comprises at least one mechanical satiety regulator, and at least one chemical satiety inducer, and may additionally comprise at least one thermogen, and/or at least one side effect remover. The dietary supplement induces satiety based on a combination of occupying part of the volume of the stomach, inducing sending signals to the brain in respect of satiety. Furthermore the dietary supplement may maintain or increase metabolism and reduce side effects such as the amount of produced flatulence. The dietary supplement may comprise fibre, whey, plant parts from plants e.g. of the genus Capsicum and plant parts from a species e.g. of the genus Mentha.

         4 . A dietary supplement comprising:
 alginate;   at least one protein hydrolysate or proteinase inhibitor;   at least one vanilloid or vanilloid agonist thermogen; and   at least one carminative selected from, camphor, carvacrol, carvone, eugenol, menthol, piperine, thymol, thymyl-acetate, gingerol, and capsaicin.   
     
     
         5 . The dietary supplement of  claim 4 , wherein the concentration of alginate in the gel formed by contact of the supplement with gastric juice is 0.001-5% (w/v). 
     
     
         6 . The dietary supplement of  claim 4 , wherein the alginate is Na-alginate. 
     
     
         7 . The dietary supplement of  claim 4 , wherein the alginate has a molecular weight of 10,000-600,000. 
     
     
         8 . The dietary supplement of  claim 4 , wherein the amount of alginate is 125-1000 mg/dose. 
     
     
         9 . The dietary supplement of  claim 4 , wherein the amount of alginate is 0.05-1% (w/v) for liquid formulations. 
     
     
         10 . The dietary supplement of  claim 4 , wherein the concentration of alginate in the gel formed by contact of the supplement with the gastric juice is 0.001-1%. 
     
     
         11 . The dietary supplement of  claim 4 , wherein the amount of each of the at least one protein hydrolysate, thermogen, and carminative in the dietary supplement which is ready to be ingested is 0.1-100 mg/dose. 
     
     
         12 . The dietary supplement of  claim 4 , wherein the total amount of thermogen in the dietary supplement is 0.5-15 mg/dose. 
     
     
         13 . The dietary supplement of  claim 4 , wherein the amount of carminative corresponds to the amount of carminative in 10-1000 μl oil per dose when an extract of plant material containing the carminative is prepared. 
     
     
         14 . The dietary supplement of  claim 4 , wherein the at least one protein hydrolysate selected from the group of soybean proteinase inhibitor, pea protein hydrolysate, pea proteinase inhibitor, potato protein hydrolysate, potato proteinase inhibitor, whey protein, and whey glycomacroprotein.

The dietary supplement of  claim 4 , wherein the at least one thermogen is provided as a preparation of plant material selected from  Camelliasinensis, Zingiberofficinale, Capsicum annuum, Capsicum frutescens, Anethumgraveolens, Piper cubeba, Piper longum, Piper nigrum, Piper umbellatum, Sinapis alba , and  Armoraciarusticana.    
     
     
         16 . The dietary supplement of  claim 4 , wherein the at least one thermogen is selected from capsaicin, capsiate, dihydrocapsiate, nordihydrocapsiate, zingiberol, piperin, epigallocatechin-gallate, (−)-pseudoephedrine, 10-gingerol, 6-gingerol, 6-shogaol, 8-gingerol, 8-shogaol, conjugated-linoleic-acid.

The dietary supplement of  claim 4 , wherein the carminative is provided as a preparation of plant material selected from the group of  Levisacumofficinale, Menthaspp, Menthaspicata, Piper nigrum, Thymus vulgaris, Anethumgraveolens, Camellia sinensis, Glycyrrhizaglabra, Ocimumbasilicum, Rosmarinusofficinalis, Ocimumgratissimum, Menthapulegium, Myrtuscommunis, Sassafras albidum, Saturejamontana, Thymus capitates, Zea mays, Acinossuaveolens, Micromeriacongesta, Origanumminutiflorum, Origanumvulgare, Acoruscalamus, Foeniculumvulgare, Pimpinellaanisum, Melissa officinalis, Taraxacumofficinale, Aloe vera, Iberisamara, Chamomillarecutita, Citrus aurantium, Cnicusbenedictus, Elettaria Amomum  spp.,  Centauriumerythracea, Cichoriumintybus, Cinnamomumverum, Coriandrumsativum, Gentiana  spp.,  Juniperus, Tilia  spp.,  Raphanussativus, Rosmarinusofficinalis, Salvia officinalis, Hypericumperforatum , and  Peumusholdus.

The dietary supplement of  claim 4 , wherein the carminative is provided as a preparation of plant material selected from the group of  Menthapiperita, Thymus vulgaris, Glycyrrhizaglabra, Ocimumbasilicum, Origanumvulgare, Levisticumvulgare, Camellia sinensis, Rosmarinusofficinalis , and  Foeniculumvulgare.    
     
     
         19 . The dietary supplement of  claim 4 , further comprising flavour. 
     
     
         20 . The dietary supplement of  claim 4 , wherein the dietary supplement is in the form of powder, pills, tablets, capsules, gel, or liquid. 
     
     
         21 . The dietary supplement of  claim 4 , provided as part of a ready-made meal, biscuit, crispbread, chip, snack bar, beverage, cookie, yoghurt, ice cream, noodles, pudding, jelly, sauce, salsa, topping, muesli, müesli-bar, low energy bar, corn-flakes, minced meat product, sausage, meat balls, dumplings, or pâte. 
     
     
         22 . The dietary supplement of  claim 4 , wherein the dietary supplement is a beverage and the amount of liquid of the beverage is above 80%.
