Abstract

Disclosed herein is a method and system for providing copyright protection for creative works from within a running content-creating software application by assembling and submitting a copyright application on the creative work to the United States Copyright Office through the use of a portable application programming interface, which may be utilized by third-party content-creating applications. Additionally disclosed is a method and system of registering a creative work in order to memorialize the creation of the creative work from within a running content creating application through the use of a portable application programming interface, which may be utilized by third-party content-creating applications. Additionally disclosed is a method and system for accessing and sharing copyright-protected creative works through a web accessible software application.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method for providing copyright protection for a creative work from within a software application running on a host device, the method comprising: accessing a web server from within said software application running on a host device; obtaining necessary copyright information for copyright application from said user; retrieving recorded user information for said user from said web server; obtaining necessary payment information from said user; uploading said creative work from said software application running on a host device to said web server; generating an electronic United States copyright application using said necessary copyright information, said recorded user information from said web server and said uploaded creative work; wherein said generated electronic United States copyright application and requisite registration and application fees are electronically submitted to the United States Copyright Office and said user is provided with a confirmation of submission of said generated electronic United States copyright application and payment of said requisite fees to said United States Copyright Office within said running software application. 
     
     
         2 . A method for providing copyright protection for a creative work from within a software application running on a host device, the method comprising: accessing a web server from within said running software application; obtaining necessary registration information from said user; retrieving recorded registration information for said user from said web server; uploading said creative work from said software application running on a host device to said web server; wherein said necessary registration information, said recorded registration information and said uploaded creative work are stored on said web server for memorializing the creation of said creative work. 
     
     
         3 . A method for providing copyright protection for a creative work from within a software application running on a host device, the method comprising: accessing a web server from within said software application running on a host device through application programming interface software; obtaining necessary copyright information for copyright application from said user through application programming interface software; retrieving recorded user information for said user from said web server through application programming interface software; obtaining necessary payment information from said user through software application interface software; uploading said creative work from said software application running on a host device to said web server; generating an electronic United States copyright application using said necessary copyright information, said recorded user information from said web server and said uploaded creative work; wherein said generated electronic United States copyright application and requisite registration and application fees are electronically submitted to the United States Copyright Office and said user is provided with a confirmation of submission of said generated electronic United States copyright application and payment of said requisite fees to said United States Copyright Office within said running software application through said software application interface software.

A method for providing copyright protection for a creative work from within a third party software application running on a host device, the method comprising: accessing a web server from within said running software application through application programming interface software; obtaining necessary registration information from said user through application programming interface software; retrieving recorded registration information for said user from said web server through application programming interface software; uploading said creative work from said software application running on a host device to said web server; wherein said necessary registration information, said recorded registration information and said uploaded creative work are stored on said web server for memorializing the creation of said creative work through said software application interface software. 
     
     
         5 . The method according to  claim 1  wherein said software application is a third party software application.
