Reformer exercise apparatus arm cord handles

Abstract

A reformer exercise apparatus is disclosed that has a generally rectangular frame. The rail portions of the frame each have an upright outer wall and a hidden outwardly open slot therein. A foot bar support assembly movably carried by each of the outwardly open slots supports the foot bar. A pair of tubular risers each having an upper roller therein at the head end of the frame direct arm cord ends to a cord retraction assembly mounted on the carriage. The retraction assembly mounted to the carriage releases the cords by pivoting either one of the shoulder stops toward the foot end of the frame. Each arm cord has a loop formed at its free end and a novel handle loop removably attached to the free end thereof without use of conventional fasteners or clips.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . An arm cord for use with an exercise apparatus, the arm cord comprising:
 a length of cord having a free end;   an eye formed in the free end of the cord; and   a detachable hand strap having a loop portion and a flexible cord ring, wherein the flexible cord ring is passed over the eye and the loop portion passed through the eye to attach the hand strap to the free end of the arm cord.   
     
     
         2 . The arm cord according to  claim 1  wherein the loop portion of the hand strap has a tubular handle mounted thereon. 
     
     
         3 . An arm cord for use with a reformer exercise apparatus having an elongated rectangular frame, a movable carriage mounted on the frame for reciprocal movement back and forth on the frame, a bias member attached between the carriage and a foot end of the frame, and a foot bar fastened to the frame near the foot end of the frame, the arm cord comprising:
 a length of cord having a free end;   an eye formed in the free end of the cord; and   a detachable hand strap having a loop portion and a separate flexible cord ring, wherein the flexible cord ring may be passed over the eye and the loop portion passed through the eye to attach the hand strap to the free end of the arm cord.   
     
     
         4 . The arm cord according to  claim 3  wherein the loop portion of the hand strap has a tubular handle mounted thereon. 
     
     
         5 . The arm cord according to  claim 3  wherein the free end of the cord is folded back and sewn to the cord to form the eye. 
     
     
         6 . The arm cord according to  claim 5  wherein the flexible cord ring is formed from a cord sewn to the loop portion of the hand strap. 
     
     
         7 . An arm cord for use with an exercise apparatus having an elongated rectangular frame, a movable carriage mounted on the frame for reciprocal movement back and forth on the frame, and a bias member attached between the carriage and a foot end of the frame, the arm cord comprising:
 a length of cord having a free end;   an eye formed in the free end of the cord; and   a detachable hand strap having a loop portion attached to a separate flexible cord ring, wherein the eye is passed through the ring and over the loop portion of the hand strap to attach the hand strap to the free end of the arm cord.   
     
     
         8 . The arm cord according to  claim 7  wherein the loop portion of the hand strap has a tubular handle mounted thereon. 
     
     
         9 . The arm cord according to  claim 7  wherein the free end of the cord is folded back and sewn to the cord to form the eye. 
     
     
         10 . The arm cord according to  claim 9  wherein the flexible cord ring is formed from a cord sewn to the loop portion of the hand strap. 
     
     
         11 . A reformer exercise apparatus having an elongated rectangular frame, a movable carriage mounted on the frame for reciprocal movement back and forth on the frame, a bias member attached between the carriage and a foot end of the frame, and an arm cord having one end fastened to the carriage, the arm cord comprising:
 a length of cord having a free end;   an eye formed in the free end of the cord; and   a detachable hand strap having a loop portion and a separate flexible cord ring, wherein the flexible cord ring may be passed over the eye and the loop portion passed through the eye to attach the hand strap to the free end of the arm cord.   
     
     
         12 . The arm cord according to  claim 11  wherein the loop portion of the hand strap has a tubular handle mounted thereon. 
     
     
         13 . The arm cord according to  claim 11  wherein the free end of the cord is folded back and sewn to the cord to form the eye. 
     
     
         14 . The arm cord according to  claim 13  wherein the flexible cord ring is formed from a cord sewn to the loop portion of the hand strap.
