System and method for producing an organic based fertilizer and usable water from animal waste
Abstract
A method of producing an organic based fertilizer and usable water from animal waste includes the step of separating the animal waste into liquid waste and solid waste. The liquid waste is clarified to produce a supernatant and a sludge which is pressed into a filter cake. Ammonia is extracted from the supernatant to produce ammonium sulfate and an aqueous solution. The aqueous solution is filtered to produce a concentrate and water filtrate. The water filtrate may be used as drinking and washing water. The filter cake, ammonium sulfate, and concentrate may be used to supplement to the solid waste which is pelletized into the organic based fertilizer. In alternative embodiments a portion of the supernatant and aqueous solution may be used as a liquid fertilizer.

9 . A method of producing an organic based fertilizer and usable water from animal waste, the method comprising the steps of:
(a) collecting the animal waste; (b) clarifying the animal waste and thereby producing a supernatant and a sludge; (c) pressing the sludge into a filter cake; (d) extracting ammonia from the supernatant to produce an ammonium salt and an aqueous solution; (e) filtering the aqueous solution to produce a concentrate and the usable water; (f) forming the filter cake into the organic based fertilizer.
10 . The method as claimed in claim 9 further including the step of treating the animal waste with a coagulating agent or a flocculating agent prior to clarifying the animal waste.
11 . The method as claimed in claim 9 further including the step of using the concentrate to supplement the filter cake being formed into the organic based fertilizer.
12 . The method as claimed in claim 9 further including the step of using the ammonium salt to supplement the filter cake being formed into the organic based fertilizer.
13 . The method as claimed in claim 9 further including the step of using a portion of the supernatant as a liquid fertilizer.
14 . The method as claimed in claim 9 further including the step of using a portion of the aqueous solution as a liquid fertilizer.
15 . The method as claimed in claim 9 further including the step of sterilizing the water filtrate prior to using the water filtrate as drinking and washing water.
16 . A method of producing an organic based fertilizer and usable water from animal waste, the method comprising the steps of:
(a) collecting a slurry of animal waste; (b) treating the slurry with a chemical selected from the group consisting of a coagulating agent and a flocculating agent; (c) pressing the slurry into a filter cake and a filtrate; (d) clarifying the filtrate to produce a supernatant and a sludge; (e) pressing the sludge into further filter cake; (f) extracting ammonia from the supernatant to produce an ammonium salt and an aqueous solution; (g) filtering the aqueous solution to produce a concentrate and the usable water; (h) forming the filter cake into the organic based fertilizer.
17 . A system for producing an organic based fertilizer and usable water from animal waste, the system comprising:
a waste storage tank for storing animal waste; a clarifier for separating the animal waste into a supernatant and a sludge; a filter press for pressing the sludge into a filter cake; an ammonium extractor for extracting ammonium from the supernatant to produce an ammonium salt and an aqueous solution; a filter for filtering the aqueous solution to produce a concentrate and the usable water; and a pelletizer for pelletizing the filter cake into the organic based fertilizer.
18 . The system as claimed in claim 17 further including a conveyor for separating the animal waste into liquid waste and solid waste wherein the waste storage tank is a liquid waste storage tank.
19 . The system as claimed in claim 18 further including a solid waste storage tank for storing the solid waste.
