Abstract

A high pressure hose and method of manufacturing the hose is disclosed. The hose is comprised of an elastomer, thermoset rubber inner tube, reinforced with one or more layers of braided or spiralized high tensile strength wire or high tenacity textile yarn and covered with a highly flexible thermoplastic sheath.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is as follows:

1 . A method of manufacturing a high pressure hose comprising the steps of:
extruding an annular tube using an elastomeric material; applying a layer of reinforcing material around the tube; applying a temporary layer of material over the reinforcing material; heating the hose to a predetermined temperature and at a predetermined pressure for a period of time sufficient to cure the inner tube and thereby create a bond between the inner tube and the reinforcing material; removing the temporary layer of material; and applying a permanent thermoplastic layer over the reinforcing material to form the finished hose.

2 . The method of manufacturing a high pressure hose of claim 1 in which the reinforcing layer is a braided wire.

3 . The method of manufacturing a high pressure hose of claim 1 in which the temporary layer is a thermoplastic material.

4 . The method of manufacturing a high pressure hose of claim 3 in which the temporary layer is polypropylene.

5 . The method of manufacturing a high pressure hose of claim 1 in which the heating is conducted in an autoclave.

6 . The method of manufacturing a high pressure hose of claim 1 in which the permanent thermoplastic layer is applied by extruding the layer onto the reinforcing layer.

7 . A method of manufacturing a high pressure hose comprising the steps of:
extruding an annular tube from an elastomeric material to form a tube having an outside surface and an inner passageway; heating the tube to a predetermined temperature and at a predetermined pressure for a period of time sufficient to cure the elastomeric material in the tube; applying an adhesive to the outside surface of the tube and supporting the tube while applying a layer of reinforcing material around the tube so as to bond the reinforcing material to the tube; and extruding a cover sheath of thermoplastic material over the reinforcing layer to form the finished hose.

8 . The method of manufacturing a high pressure hose of claim 7 in which the layer of reinforcing material is braided wire.

9 . The method of manufacturing a high pressure hose of claim 8 in which the tube is supporting during the application of the reinforcing material by applying internal pressure in the inner passageway of the tube.

10 . A method of manufacturing a high pressure hose comprising the steps of:
extruding an annular tube from an elastomeric material to form a tube having an outside surface and an inner passageway; heating the tube to a predetermined temperature and at a predetermined pressure for a period of time sufficient to cure the elastomeric material in the tube; stiffening the tube sufficiently so as to allow the application of a layer of reinforcing material around the tube; and extruding a cover sheath of thermoplastic material over the reinforcing layer to form the finished hose.

11 . The method of manufacturing a high pressure hose of claim 10 in which the layer of reinforcing material is braided wire.

12 . The method of manufacturing a high pressure hose of claim 10 in which the layer of reinforcing material is braided yarn.
