Abstract

A packed command can be received at a storage device. The packed command can include an indicator of a source data location in the storage device and an indicator of a destination data location in the storage device. In response to receiving the packed command, a storage map table in the storage device can be updated.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
I/we claim:

         1 . A computer-implemented method, comprising:
a storage device receiving a packed storage command from outside of the storage device, the packed command comprising an indicator of a source data location in the storage device and an indicator of a destination data location in the storage device, the packed storage command further comprising an operation parameter indicating an operation selected from a group consisting of a move operation and a soft link operation; and in response to receiving the packed command at the storage device, updating a storage map table in the storage device.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the operation parameter indicates a soft link operation.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein updating the storage map table comprises updating the storage map table to include multiple valid storage map table entries linking to the same set of data.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the operation parameter indicates a move operation.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein updating the storage map table comprises:
invalidating a link between the indicator of the source data location and a set of data; and committing a link between the indicator of the destination data location and the set of data.

6 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the packed storage command references a set of data to be moved, the set of data being stored in a set of one or more physical locations in the storage device, and wherein the storage device completes the move operation with the set of data remaining in the set of one or more physical locations in the storage device.

         7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:
the storage device is a solid state storage device; the indicator of the source data location is an indicator of one or more logical block addresses; and the indicator of the destination data location is an indicator of one or more logical block addresses.

8 . One or more computer-readable storage media having computer-executable instructions embodied thereon that, when executed by at least one processor, cause at least one processor to perform acts comprising:
a storage device receiving a packed storage command from outside of the storage device, the packed command comprising an indicator of a source data location in the storage device and an indicator of a destination data location in the storage device, the packed storage command further comprising an operation parameter indicating an operation selected from a group consisting of a move operation and a soft link operation; and in response to receiving the packed command at the storage device, updating a storage map table in the storage device.

9 . The one or more computer-readable storage media of claim 8 , wherein the operation parameter indicates a soft link operation.

10 . The one or more computer-readable storage media of claim 9 , wherein updating the storage map table comprises updating the storage map table to include multiple valid storage map table entries linking to the same set of data.

11 . The one or more computer-readable storage media of claim 8 , wherein the operation parameter indicates a move operation.

12 . The one or more computer-readable storage media of claim 11 , wherein updating the storage map table comprises:
invalidating a link between the indicator of the source data location and a set of data; and committing a link between the indicator of the destination data location and the set of data.

13 . The one or more computer-readable storage media of claim 11 , wherein the packed storage command references a set of data to be moved, the set of data being stored in a set of one or more physical locations in the storage device, and wherein the storage device completes the move operation with the set of data remaining in the set of one or more physical locations in the storage device.

14 . The one or more computer-readable storage media of claim 8 , wherein:
the storage device is a solid state storage device; the indicator of the source data location is an indicator of one or more logical block addresses; and the indicator of the destination data location is an indicator of one or more logical block addresses.

         15 . A computer system comprising:
at least one processor; and memory comprising instructions stored thereon that when executed by at least one processor cause at least one processor to perform acts comprising:
generating a packed storage command, the packed command comprising an indicator of a source data location in a storage device and an indicator of a destination data location in the storage device, the packed storage command further comprising an operation parameter indicating an operation selected from a group consisting of a move operation and a soft link operation; and
sending the packed storage command to the storage device from outside the storage device.

16 . The computer system of claim 15 , further comprising the storage device, the storage device being configured to perform the following:
receiving the packed command; and updating a storage map table in the storage device.

17 . The computer system of claim 16 , wherein the operation parameter indicates a soft link operation, and wherein updating the storage map table comprises updating the storage map table to include multiple valid storage map table entries linking to the same set of data.

18 . The computer system of claim 16 , wherein the operation parameter indicates a move operation, and wherein updating the storage map table comprises:
invalidating a link between the indicator of the source data location and a set of data; and committing a link between the indicator of the destination data location and the set of data.

19 . The computer system of claim 16 , wherein the operation parameter indicates a move operation, and wherein the packed storage command references a set of data to be moved, the set of data being stored in a set of one or more physical locations in the storage device, and wherein the storage device completes the move operation with the set of data remaining in the set of one or more physical locations in the storage device.

20 . The computer system of claim 16 , wherein:
the storage device is a solid state storage device; the indicator of the source data location is an indicator of one or more logical block addresses; and the indicator of the destination data location is an indicator of one or more logical block addresses.
