Abstract

A protective garment that reduces the energy transfer from an impact or a fall by consuming some of the mechanical energy transferred to the person wearing the garment and decreasing the amount of injury to that person. The material used in the manufacture of the garment is a polymer, often termed “air bubble packing”. The protective action uses a design that has one or more layers of the air bubble packing or one air chamber fashioned into a robe style garment for the purpose of reducing the amount of injury to the wearer from an impact with an UN-yielding surface. The air chambers are intended to cushion or rupture as pressure is applied, after the collapse of the first air chamber the next air chamber or layer of chambers and the process is repeated.

A garment to provide some protection of the head and body of the wearer from an impact, comprising: one or more layers of air cushioning material constructed generally into a full length overcoat style garment, having a extended collar height of cushioning material that is generally to the top of wearer's head, and having the length of the coat that is generally past the knees, 
     
     
         2 . The garment in  claim 1  constructed with plurality layers of air cushioning material, having air chambers that are different in size for one or more of said layers. 
     
     
         3 . The garment in  claim 1  having 4 layers of air chambered material, each layer having 2 sides a smooth top side and a air chambered bottom side, arranged with 2 layers of large air chambered material generally over ½ inch in diameter orientated together so that the bottom sides face each other, and the smooth top side of the air cushioning material is the exposed side, and the 2 smaller air chambered layers generally less than ½ inch in diameter are orientated on both smooth sides of the 2 large air chambered material so that the smooth top side of the smaller air chambered layers material is exposed 
     
     
         4 . Protective garment made with a novel polymer cushioning material design, configured with one or more air chambers arranged inside each chamber and decreasing in size with each inner air chamber.
