Abstract

An electronic document reader includes a display configured to display at least a page of an electronic document, a memory configured to store indications of sets of pages of the electronic document, a user interface for receiving commands, and a processor connected to the display, the memory, and the user interface. The processor is configured to cause pages to be displayed on the display. In response to a first command, the processor can use a random number generator to select a new page to display from a first set of pages, the first set of pages excluding a second set of previously displayed pages.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A method for turning a page of an electronic document, the method comprising:
displaying a current page of an electronic document on a display; receiving at a user interface a command to display a different and unspecified page of the electronic document on the display; in response to the command, a processor selecting a new page of the electronic document from a set of pages that excludes previously displayed pages and that excludes one or more pages that are immediately adjacent the current page; and displaying the new page on the display.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising displaying a next or previous page on the display in response to receiving a normal page turn command that is different from the command.

3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising, in response to the command, displaying on the display a graphical element indicative of a number of pages between the current page and the new page.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the graphical element indicates an approximation of the number of pages between the current page and the new page.

5 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the graphical element accurately indicates the number of pages between the current page and the new page.

6 . The method of claim 3 , wherein displaying the graphical element comprises displaying one or more page corners.

7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the graphical element comprises a number of page corners indicative of the number of pages between the current page and the new page.

8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising, in response to the command, displaying on the display one or more digits representative of a number of pages between the current page and the new page.

9 . A method for turning a page of an electronic document, the method comprising:
displaying a current page of an electronic document on a display; receiving at a user interface a command to display a different page of the electronic document on the display; determining whether the command is a first command to flip ahead of the current page or a second command to flip back from the current page; when the command is determined to be the first command, a processor selecting a new page of the electronic document from an ahead set of pages that are ahead of the current page, the ahead set of pages excluding previously displayed pages ahead of the current page and excluding a next page that is immediately ahead of the current page; when the command is determined to be the second command, the processor selecting the new page of the electronic document from a behind set of pages that are behind the current page, the behind set of pages excluding previously displayed pages behind the current page and excluding a previous page that is immediately behind the current page; and displaying the new page on the display.

10 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising, in response to the command, displaying on the display a graphical element indicative of a number of pages between the current page and the new page.

11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the graphical element indicates an approximation of the number of pages between the current page and the new page.

12 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the graphical element accurately indicates the number of pages between the current page and the new page.

13 . The method of claim 10 , wherein displaying the graphical element comprises displaying one or more page corners.

14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the graphical element comprises a number of page corners indicative of the number of pages between the current page and the new page.

15 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising, in response to the command, displaying on the display one or more digits representative of a number of pages between the current page and the new page.

16 . An electronic document reader comprising:
a display configured to display pages of an electronic document; a memory configured to store at least one indication of a set of pages of the electronic document; and a processor connected to the display, the memory, and a user interface, the processor configured to cause pages to be displayed on the display and configured to, in response to a command received from the user interface, display a different and unspecified page of the electronic document on the display, the processor selecting a new page of the electronic document from a set of pages that excludes previously displayed pages and that excludes one or more pages that are immediately adjacent a currently displayed page.

17 . The electronic document reader of claim 16 , wherein the processor is further configured to, in response to the command, cause the display to display a graphical element indicative of a number of pages between the current page and the new page.

18 . The electronic document reader of claim 17 , wherein the graphical element indicates an approximation of the number of pages between the current page and the new page.

19 . The electronic document reader of claim 17 , wherein the graphical element accurately indicates the number of pages between the current page and the new page.

20 . The electronic document reader of claim 17 , wherein the graphical element comprises one or more page corners.
