Abstract

Disclosed herein are electric fireplaces comprising (a) a shade comprising a plurality of openings; (b) a reflector comprising a shaft and a plurality of flame-shaped reflecting elements; (c) a simulated fuel bed; (d) a light source; and (e) a flame display screen, wherein the flame display screen is located between the reflector and simulated fuel bed, and wherein the shade is located between the light source and the reflector so that light from the light source passes through the plurality of openings of the shade.

         15 . An electric fireplace comprising:
 a shade including a plurality of openings;   a flame display screen;   a reflector configured to reflect light from a light source, wherein the reflected light passes through the plurality of openings and diffuses on the flame display screen; and   a controller configured to rotate the reflector to produce a realistic moving flame effect.   
     
     
         16 . The electric fireplace of  claim 15 , wherein the controller is further configured to change a rotation direction of the reflector to produce the realistic moving flame effect. 
     
     
         17 . The electric fireplace of  claim 15 , wherein the controller is further configured to rotate the reflector in a first direction for a first time period and rotate the reflector in a second direction for a second time period to produce the realistic moving flame effect, the second direction being different from the first direction. 
     
     
         18 . The electric fireplace of  claim 15 , wherein the shade is made of light-blocking material. 
     
     
         19 . The electric fireplace of  claim 15 , wherein one or more of the openings of the shade are flame-shaped. 
     
     
         20 . The electric fireplace of  claim 15 , wherein an opening of the shade has a shape selected from the group consisting of: a dot shape, a heart shape, a star shape, an oval shape, a circle shape, a triangle shape, a square shape, a rectangle shape, a pentagon shape, a hexagon shape, a heptagon shape, a nonagon shape, an octagon shape, a decagon shape, and an arc shape. 
     
     
         21 . The electric fireplace of  claim 15 , wherein the reflector includes a shaft and a plurality of flame-shaped reflecting elements. 
     
     
         22 . The electric fireplace of  claim 21 , wherein at least part of one of the flame-shaped reflecting elements is reflective. 
     
     
         23 . The electric fireplace of  claim 15 , wherein the light source includes an incandescent light bulb, a fluorescent light bulb, a gas discharge lamp, or a light emitting diode. 
     
     
         24 . The electric fireplace of  claim 15 , wherein the reflector is located above the shade and the light source. 
     
     
         25 . The electric fireplace of  claim 15 , wherein:
 the shade includes a substantially planar surface; and   the plurality of openings of the shade are located on the substantially planar surface.   
     
     
         26 . The electric fireplace of  claim 15 , wherein the flame display screen is located substantially above the shade. 
     
     
         27 . The electric fireplace of  claim 15 , wherein the light source is configured to emit light with different shapes. 
     
     
         28 . The electric fireplace of  claim 15 , wherein the controller is further configured to change a rotation speed of the reflector. 
     
     
         29 . The electric fireplace of  claim 15 , wherein the controller is further configured to change an intensity of the light source. 
     
     
         30 . A method for simulating flames in an electric fireplace, the method comprising:
 receiving light from a light source;   reflecting, using a reflector, the light to pass through a shade including a plurality of openings; and   rotating the reflector to produce a realistic moving flame effect.
