Handicap handrail system

Abstract

Handrails provide for increased accessibility to a restroom stall, permitting a user to apply weight to the handrail. A retrofitable handrail includes an attachment member connecting the retrofitable handrail to a top of a partition wall of the restroom stall, a support member connected to the attachment member, and a handrail member connected to the support member.

1 . An apparatus providing retrofitable handrails for use in a restroom stall, the apparatus comprising:
 an attachment member connecting the retrofitable handrail to a top of a partition wall of the restroom stall;   a support member connected to the attachment member; and   a handrail member connected to the support member.   
     
     
         2 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the attachment member comprises a first attachment member and the support member comprises a first support member;
 further comprising:
 a second attachment member connecting the retrofitable handrail to the top of the partition wall; and 
 a second support member connected to the second attachment member; and 
   wherein the handrail member is connected to the second attachment member.   
     
     
         3 . The apparatus of  claim 2 , further comprising:
 a third support member connected to the first attachment member;   a fourth support member connected to the second attachment member; and   a second handrail member located in an adjacent restroom stall and attached to the third support member and the fourth support member.   
     
     
         4 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the support member can be adjusted in length. 
     
     
         5 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , further comprising a floor support member. 
     
     
         6 . The apparatus of  claim 5 , wherein the floor support can be adjusted in length. 
     
     
         7 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , further comprising adjustable attachment hardware connecting the handrail member to the support member, wherein the adjustable attachment hardware is configured to permit one of adjustment or replacement of the handrail member. 
     
     
         8 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , further comprising an adjustable gripping bracket securing the retrofitable handrail to the partition wall. 
     
     
         9 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , further comprising a support contacting the partition wall proximate to the handrail member. 
     
     
         10 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the attachment member comprises an angled section. 
     
     
         11 . An apparatus providing retrofitable handrails for use in a restroom stall, the apparatus comprising:
 a plurality of hanging supports, each comprising:
 an attachment member receiving support from a top of a partition wall of the restroom stall; and 
 a support member connected to the attachment member; and 
   a handrail member connected to the hanging supports.   
     
     
         12 . A method to retrofit a restroom stall to provide a handrail member within the restroom stall, the method comprising:
 hanging a retrofitable handrail to a partition wall of the restroom stall, the hanging comprising locating an attachment member of the retrofitable handrail to a top of the partition wall.   
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 12 , wherein the hanging further comprises locating a second attachment member of the retrofitable handrail to the top of the partition wall. 
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 12 , further comprising securing the retrofitable handrail to the partition wall with a fastener. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 12 , further comprising securing the retrofitable handrail to the partition wall with a gripping bracket. 
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 12 , further comprising securing the retrofitable handrail to the partition wall with a suction device. 
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 12 , wherein the hanging further comprises seating the retrofitable handrail to the partition wall with an angled section of the retrofitable handrail located to the top of the partition wall.
