Abstract

A computer-implemented method is disclosed that includes receiving on a mobile device a search query associated with a geographic location, providing one or more search results in response to the search query, the search results each being associated with a geographic location, and presenting on a graphical display of the computing device icons corresponding to each search result and also corresponding to a key on the computing device.

         21 . A computer implemented method comprising:
 receiving, on a mobile computing device, a search query that is associated with a geographic area;   receiving, at the mobile computing device, one or more search results that are responsive to the search query and are each associated with a respective facility located within the geographic area;   displaying, on a display of the mobile computing device, a first view of a map that shows a first geographic area visually overlaid with one or more first icons at locations that correspond to one or more of the respective facilities;   panning the map on the display of the mobile computing device to show a second view of the map that shows a second geographic area and that is different than the first view of the map; and   displaying one or more icons over the second view of the map, the second view being overlaid with one or more second icons at locations that correspond to one or more of the respective facilities, wherein the one or more second icons differ at least in part from the one or more first icons.   
     
     
         22 . The computer implemented method of  claim 21 , further comprising:
 identifying the geographic area based on receiving, on the mobile computing device, information that represents the geographic area.   
     
     
         23 . The computer implemented method of  claim 22 , wherein the information that represents the geographic area comprises a current location of the mobile computing device determined by the mobile computing device. 
     
     
         24 . The computer implemented method of  claim 22 , wherein the information that represents the geographic area comprises location information received on the mobile computing device from a user of the mobile computing device. 
     
     
         25 . The computer implemented method of  claim 21 , further comprising:
 displaying, on the display of the mobile computing device, one or more indicator icons positioned at locations on the display of the mobile computing device in order to indicate a direction to pan the map on the display of the mobile computing device.   
     
     
         26 . The computer implemented method of  claim 25 , wherein panning the map on the display of the mobile computing device to show a second view of the map comprises:
 panning the map on the display of the mobile computing device in a direction indicated by a one of the one or more indicator icons in order to display the second view of the map.   
     
     
         27 . The computer implemented method of  claim 26 , wherein the second view of the map includes at least one of the respective facilities that is not included in the first view of the map. 
     
     
         28 . The computer implemented method of  claim 25 , wherein an indicator icon is positioned at each corner of the display of the mobile computing device. 
     
     
         29 . The computer implemented method of  claim 25 , wherein an indicator icon is positioned at each edge of the display of the mobile computing device. 
     
     
         30 . The computer implemented method of  claim 25 , wherein each of the one or more indicator icons includes a number corresponding to the one or more search results responsive to the search query that are located on the map in the direction indicated by the respective indicator icon. 
     
     
         31 . A mobile computing device comprising:
 a wireless communication interface;   a display screen; and   one or more processors connected to memory that stores instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
 receiving, on a mobile computing device, a search query that is associated with a geographic area; 
 receiving, at the mobile computing device, one or more search results that are responsive to the search query and are each associated with a respective facility located within the geographic area; 
 displaying, on a display of the mobile computing device, a first view of a map shows a first geographic area visually overlaid with one or more first icons at locations that correspond to one or more of the respective facilities; 
 panning the map on the display of the mobile computing device to show a second view of the map that shows a second geographic area and that is different than the first view; and 
 displaying one or more icons over the second view of the map, the second view being overlaid with one or more second icons at locations that correspond to one or more of the respective facilities, wherein the one or more second icons differ at least in part from the one or more first icons. 
   
     
     
         32 . The mobile computing device of  claim 31 , further comprising:
 identifying the geographic area based on receiving, on the mobile computing device, information that represents the geographic area.   
     
     
         33 . The mobile computing device of  claim 32 , wherein the information that represents the geographic area comprises a current location of the mobile computing device determined by the mobile computing device. 
     
     
         34 . The mobile computing device of  claim 32 , wherein the information that represents the geographic area comprises location information received on the mobile computing device from a user of the mobile computing device. 
     
     
         35 . The mobile computing device of  claim 31 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 displaying, on the display of the mobile computing device, one or more indicator icons positioned at locations on the display of the mobile computing device in order to indicate a direction to pan the map on the display of the mobile computing device.   
     
     
         36 . The mobile computing device of  claim 35 , wherein panning the map on the display of the mobile computing device to show a second view of the map comprises:
 panning the map on the display of the mobile computing device in a direction indicated by a one of the one or more indicator icons in order to display the second view of the map.   
     
     
         37 . The mobile computing device of  claim 36 , wherein the second view of the map includes at least one of the respective facilities that is not included in the first view of the map. 
     
     
         38 . The mobile computing device of  claim 35 , wherein an indicator icon is positioned at each corner of the display of the mobile computing device. 
     
     
         39 . The mobile computing device of  claim 35 , wherein an indicator icon is positioned at each edge of the display of the mobile computing device. 
     
     
         40 . The mobile computing device of  claim 35 , wherein each of the one or more indicator icons includes a number corresponding to the one or more search results responsive to the search query that are located on the map in the direction indicated by the respective indicator icon.
