Abstract

Biocompatible wound closure devices including an elongate body and a plug member are useful for wound repair.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 20 . (canceled)

         21 . A wound closure device comprising:
an elongate body having a proximal end and a distal end, the elongate body formed from a hydrogel and; a plug member coupled to the distal end of the elongate body, the plug member fabricated from a porous material.

22 . The wound closure device of claim 21 , wherein the elongate body includes a grooved exterior surface.

23 . The wound closure device of claim 21 , wherein the elongate body has a length of about 10 mm to about 150 mm.

24 . The wound closure device of claim 21 , wherein the hydrogel is bioabsorbable.

25 . The wound closure device of claim 21 , wherein the hydrogel is formed from multiple precursors.

26 . The wound closure device of claim 21 , wherein the hydrogel is formed from a single precursor.

27 . The wound closure device of claim 21 , wherein the hydrogel is activated by an environmental condition selected from the group consisting of temperature, pressure, pH, ionic strength, and combinations thereof.

28 . The wound closure device of claim 21 , wherein the plug member comprises a mesh.

29 . The wound closure device of claim 21 , wherein the plug member includes at least one reactive group that bonds to tissue.

30 . The wound closure device of claim 29 , wherein the at least one reactive group is selected from the group consisting of isocyanates, N-hydroxy succinimides, cyanoacrylates, aldehydes, genipin, trilysine, tetralysine, polylysines, diimides, diisocyanates, cyanamides, carboiimides, dimethyl adipimidate, starches, and combinations thereof.

31 . The wound closure device of claim 28 , wherein the mesh is bioabsorbable.

32 . The wound closure device of claim 29 , wherein the at least one reactive group is provided as a coating.

33 . The wound closure device of claim 32 , wherein the coating is in dry form.

         34 . A wound closure device comprising:
an elongate body formed from a hydrogel; and a plug member attached to the elongate body and formed from a mesh including a tissue facing surface defining a diameter that is larger than a diameter of the elongate body.

35 . The wound closure device of claim 34 , wherein the hydrogel has a grooved exterior surface.

36 . The wound closure device of claim 34 , wherein the mesh includes at least one reactive group on the tissue facing surface.
