Abstract

A system and method to simulate the impact of leadership activity for individuals in leader and/or manager roles to be able to model their organization as a system and to simulate a plurality of actions that might be taken and their impact on the non-linear dynamics of the organization, its functions, capabilities, processes and outcomes. The system includes an Organization State component, a Leadership Activities component, an Environment State component, and a Simulation Module component. The Simulation Module component takes in initial conditions defined for the Organization State, Leadership Activities and the Environment State, iterates the functions and process of the organization through time, simulates the interactions of the various variables described in the Organization State, the Leadership Activities and the Environment State and the interactive effects among them and provides outputs of a plurality of measures for each time step.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method for implementing a leadership simulation, the method comprising:
 determining, by utilizing instructions from memory that are executed by a processor, a level of leadership activity of an organization for a leadership activities variable based on aggregating data gathered on the leadership activities variable;   calculating a performance of the organization based on an organization state variable, the leadership activities variable, and the level of leadership activity of the organization, wherein the performance is utilized to determine an action to be executed to adjust the performance; and   adjusting the action to be executed to adjust the performance of the organization as the data on the leadership activities variable and data on the organization state variable change over time.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the method for implementing the leadership simulation utilizes agent-based based modeling, equation-based modeling, discrete event modeling, system dynamics modeling, expert systems modeling, rule-based modeling, linear programming modeling, mathematical equations modeling, optimization techniques, multi-agent modeling, cellular automata, network analysis, social network modeling, or any combination thereof. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising gathering the data on the organization state variable by utilizing survey instruments on the organization state variable. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising gathering the data on the organization state variable by utilizing interview protocols, observation and coding techniques, search engines, data mining techniques, electronic surveillance techniques, forecasts, assumptions, or a combination thereof. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising implementing the leadership simulation for human agents, non-human agents, computerized agents, or a combination thereof. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising gathering the data on the organization state variable, wherein the organization state variable includes a non-human organization state variable, a computer systems organization state variable, a complex computerized environment state variable, or a combination thereof. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising gathering the data on the leadership activities variable, wherein the leadership activities variable includes a non-human agent leadership activities variable, a computer systems leadership activities variable, a complex computerized environment leadership activities variable, or a combination thereof.

The method of  claim 1 , further comprising gathering the data on the leadership activities variable by utilizing survey instruments, interview protocols, observation and coding techniques, search engines, data mining techniques, electronic surveillance techniques, forecasts, assumptions, or a combination thereof. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising gathering the data on the leadership activities variable by utilizing a telephone, an internet, a face-to-face communication, electronic communications, a computer, audio equipment, video equipment, or a combination thereof.

The method of  claim 1 , further comprising gathering the data on the leadership activities variable, wherein the leadership activities variable describes transactional leadership activities, management practices, reward-for-performance programs, control and monitoring, role clarity, task structuring and assignment, load balancing, resource allocation, training, knowledge management, leadership development, communication training and systems, succession planning and programs, project management, supervisory coaching and training, performance management, hiring, firing, on-boarding, budget reviews, management by exception, decision-making, execution, performance aspiration setting, compensation programs, human resource policies, transformational leadership activities, strategy reviews and development, visioning sessions, communication programs, town hall meetings, skip level meetings, all-hands meetings, customer focus programs, future focus, motivational speaking, cross-functional teams, initiatives and skunk works, brainstorming and action learning programs, symbols and activities intended to motivate, future direction definitions, aligning action, inspire confidence, increasing intellectual stimulation, variables relating to when activities are occurring, variables relating to where activities are occurring, or a combination thereof. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising gathering data on an environmental state variable.

         13 . A system for implementing a leadership simulation, the system comprising:
 a memory that stores instructions;   a processor that executes the instructions to perform operations, the operations comprising:
 determining a level of leadership activity of an organization for a leadership activities variable based on aggregating data gathered on the leadership activities variable; 
 calculating a performance of the organization based on an organization state variable, the leadership activities variable, and the level of leadership activity of the organization, wherein the performance is utilized to determine an action to be executed to adjust the performance; and 
 adjusting the action to be executed to adjust the performance of the organization as the data on the leadership activities variable and data on the organization state variable change over time.

         23 . A computer-readable medium comprising instructions, which when loaded and executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations, the operations comprising:
 determining a level of leadership activity of an organization for a leadership activities variable based on aggregating data gathered on the leadership activities variable;   calculating a performance of the organization based on an organization state variable, the leadership activities variable, and the level of leadership activity of the organization, wherein the performance is utilized to determine an action to be executed to adjust the performance; and   adjusting the action to be executed to adjust the performance of the organization as the data on the leadership activities variable and data on the organization state variable change over time.

The computer-readable medium of  claim 23 , wherein the operations further comprise implementing a leadership simulation by utilizing agent-based based modeling, equation-based modeling, discrete event modeling, system dynamics modeling, expert systems modeling, linear programming modeling, mathematical equations modeling, optimization techniques, multi-agent modeling, cellular automata, network analysis, social network modeling, or any combination thereof.
