Abstract
A method for targeted advertising is disclosed. The method includes accessing at least one piece of demographic information associated with a user of a portable device, selecting an advertisement to be delivered to the user based at least in part on the demographic information, and initiating communication of a version of the advertisement configured for presentation at the portable device.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A media presentation system, comprising:
an electronic device having a wireless receiver, a display, a non-volatile memory, and a processing device operable to execute instructions stored in the non-volatile memory; a browser saved locally at the electronic device and configured to facilitate accessing of a web page; and a collection of instructions stored in the non-volatile memory and operable to direct the electronic device to request a list of network addresses for a plurality of portions of an available media, to request delivery of a portion of the available media such that the portion is formatted to be used at a first rate, and to request delivery of a different portion of the available media such that the different portion is formatted to be used at a second rate that is different than the first rate.
2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the electronic device is configured such that a user is able to access the browser and choose the available media without utilizing a physical keyboard or an external mouse, further wherein the first rate is a rate at which the portion of the available media can be communicated.
3 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising a first wireless receiver and a second wireless receiver, wherein the first wireless receiver is configured to receive information at the first rate.
4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the portion of the available media is formatted to allow communication at the first rate, wherein the first rate is a rate at which the portion of the available media is communicated to the display for presentation on the display.
5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the electronic device is designed for use as a component of a home entertainment system.
6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the list of network addresses is a playlist and includes at least one Uniform Resource reference to a network location.
7 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising an additional collection of instructions stored in the non-volatile memory and operable to direct the electronic device to present a graphical user interface comprising a link that includes the word “store.”
8 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the link is selectable and configured to respond to a selection by presenting an interface for a network based resource that maintains a plurality of files available for communication to the electronic device.
9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the plurality of files includes at least one application for use at the electronic device.
10 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the plurality of files includes at least one media file available for delivery to the electronic device.
11 . A media presentation system, comprising:
an electronic device having a wireless receiver, a display, a non-volatile memory, and a processing device operable to execute instructions stored in the non-volatile memory; a browser saved locally at the electronic device and configured to facilitate accessing of a web page; a collection of instructions stored in the non-volatile memory and operable to direct the electronic device to request a list of network addresses for a plurality of portions of an available media, to request delivery of a portion of the available media such that the portion is formatted for use at a first rate, and to request delivery of a different portion of the available media such that the different portion is formatted for use at a second rate that is different than the first rate; and an additional collection of instructions stored in the non-volatile memory and operable to direct the electronic device to present a graphical user interface on the display comprising a link, wherein the link is selectable and configured to respond to a selection by presenting an interface for a network based resource that maintains a plurality of files available for communication to the electronic device.
12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of files includes at least one media file available for a streaming delivery to the electronic device, wherein the electronic device utilizes the collection of instructions to receive the streaming delivery.
13 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the electronic device further comprises a buffer, further wherein a formatting of the portion to facilitate use at the first rate comprises a compressed state that allows the portion to be communicated from the buffer at or below the first rate.
14 . The system of claim 11 , wherein a formatting of the portion to facilitate use at the first rate comprises a compressed state that allows the portion to be communicated to the electronic device at the first rate.
15 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the electronic device is configured to use an HTTP protocol to request the list of network addresses and to request delivery of the portion of the available media.
16 . The system of claim 11 , further comprising the network based resource that maintains the plurality of files available for communication to the electronic device.
17 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the list of network addresses comprises a collection of Uniform Resource addresses.
18 . A media presentation system, comprising:
an electronic device having a wireless receiver, a display, a non-volatile memory, and a processing device operable to execute instructions stored in the non-volatile memory; a collection of instructions stored in the non-volatile memory and operable to direct the electronic device to request delivery of a portion of the available media such that the portion is formatted for communication at a first rate, and to request delivery of a different portion of the available media such that the different portion is formatted for communication at a second rate that is different than the first rate; and an additional collection of instructions stored in the non-volatile memory and operable to direct the electronic device to present a graphical user interface on the display comprising a link, wherein the link is selectable and configured to respond to a selection by presenting an interface for a network based resource that maintains a plurality of files available for communication to the electronic device.
19 . The system of claim 18 , further comprising a list comprising a plurality of Uniform Resource formatted identifiers for a collection of portions of the available media.
20 . The system of claim 18 , further comprising a buffer, wherein the buffer is communicatively coupled to the display, further wherein the buffer is operable to communicate the portion of the available media to the display at the first rate.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
