Abstract

Lubricant composition formulations comprising at least one biodegradable plastic, such as polyhydroxyalkanoate and/or polybutylene succinate, and at least one lubricant, such as a vegetable oil.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A biodegradable lubricant composition comprising:
 at least one biodegradable plastic;   a lubricating oil component, wherein said lubricating oil component comprises a biodegradable oil; and   a solid lubricant component.   
     
     
         2 . The biodegradable lubricant composition of  claim 1 , wherein the biodegradable plastic comprises polyhydroxyalkanoate. 
     
     
         3 . The biodegradable lubricant composition of  claim 1 , where the biodegradable plastic comprises polybutylene succinate. 
     
     
         4 . The biodegradable lubricant composition of  claim 1 , wherein the biodegradable plastic comprises polyhydroxyalkanoate and polybutylene succinate. 
     
     
         5 . The biodegradable lubricant composition of  claim 1 , wherein the biodegradable plastic comprises between about 50% and about 75% polyhydroxyalkanoate, and between about 25% and about 50% polybutylene succinate. 
     
     
         6 . The biodegradable lubricant composition of  claim 1 , comprising about 5% to about 28% of said biodegradable oil. 
     
     
         7 . The biodegradable lubricant composition of  claim 6 , wherein the biodegradable oil comprises a vegetable oil. 
     
     
         8 . The biodegradable lubricant composition of  claim 1 , wherein the solid lubricant comprises at least one of graphite and molybdenum disulfide. 
     
     
         9 . The biodegradable lubricant composition of  claim 1 , comprising about 5% to about 50% of said solid lubricant component. 
     
     
         10 . The biodegradable lubricant composition of  claim 1 , further comprising at least one additive. 
     
     
         11 . A lubricant composition comprising:
 at least one biodegradable plastic, wherein said at least one biodegradable plastic comprises polyhydroxyalkanoate, polybutylene succinate or mixtures thereof;   a lubricating oil component, wherein said lubricating oil component comprises a biodegradable oil; and   a solid lubricant component.   
     
     
         12 . The lubricant composition of  claim 11 , wherein the biodegradable plastic comprises polyhydroxyalkanoate and polybutylene succinate. 
     
     
         13 . The lubricant composition of  claim 12 , wherein the biodegradable plastic comprises between 50% and 75% polyhydroxyalkanoate, and between 25% and 50% polybutylene succinate. 
     
     
         14 . The lubricant composition of  claim 11 , comprising about 5% to about 28% of said biodegradable oil. 
     
     
         15 . The lubricant composition of  claim 14 , wherein the biodegradable oil comprises a vegetable oil. 
     
     
         16 . The lubricant composition of  claim 15 , wherein the vegetable oil comprises at least one vegetable oil selected from the group consisting of canola oil, castor oil, corn oil, Lesquerella oil, meadowfoam oil, olive oil, peanut oil, rice bran oil, safflower oil, sesame oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil, and walnut oil. 
     
     
         17 . The lubricant composition of  claim 11 , wherein the solid lubricant component comprises at least one solid lubricant selected from the group consisting of molybdenum disulfide powder, graphite powder, talc powder, mica powder, calcium carbonate powder, and Bentonite clay. 
     
     
         18 . The lubricant composition of  claim 11  formed into a lubricant stick. 
     
     
         19 . The lubricant composition of  claim 11 , comprising about 5% to about 50% of said solid lubricant component. 
     
     
         20 . A lubricant stick formed of a lubricant composition comprising:
 about 30% to about 90% of a biodegradable plastic portion comprising between about 50% and about 75% polyhydroxyalkanoate, and between about 25% and about 50% polybutylene succinate;   about 5% to about 28% of at least one vegetable oil selected from the group consisting of canola oil, castor oil, corn oil, Lesquerella oil, meadowfoam oil, olive oil, peanut oil, rice bran oil, safflower oil, sesame oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil, and walnut oil; and   about 5% to about 50% of at least one solid lubricant component selected from the group consisting of molybdenum disulfide powder, graphite powder, talc powder, mica powder, calcium carbonate powder, and Bentonite clay.
