What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method of managing a schema definition for a class on a peer-to-peer database comprising:
 determining that a source schema definition for the class that is stored on the peer-to-peer database does not match a target schema definition for the class that is stored on the peer-to-peer database;   determining a modification between the source schema definition and the target schema definition; and   applying the modification to the class to obtain the target schema definition for the class.
