Systems And Methods For Communicating Music Indicia

Abstract

Systems and methods for providing a menu permanently stored on a mobile device. The menu provides a ranked music indicia option to review a ranked list of music indicia over a cellular network. The menu further provides a news and reviews option to review news and reviews relating to a music artist or a band over a cellular network. The menu further provides an artist option to obtain information about a music artist or a band over a cellular network. An application provisioning server comprising instructions for (i) receiving a selection over a cellular network and (ii) providing over a cellular network, as a function of said selection, any of (a) a ranked list of music indicia, (b) news and reviews relating to a music artist or band or (c) information about a music artist or a band.

         2 . A method of presenting users of mobile devices with a plurality of content items available for purchase from a content store, the method comprising:
 providing users of the mobile devices each with an option to select a genre; and   for each one of the users
 providing a chart view for display on a corresponding one of the mobile devices, the chart view containing a ranked list of content items of the plurality of content items, the ranked list corresponding to the genre selected by the one of the users, 
 providing in association with the chart view an option for the one of the users to select a specific one of the content items from the ranked list, and 
 providing, in response to selection of the specific one of the content items made via the corresponding one of the mobile devices, a dedicated view for the specific one of the content items for display on the corresponding one of the mobile devices and, in association with the dedicated view, an option for the one of the users to preview the specific one of the content items and an option for the one of the users to purchase the specific one of the content items; 
   wherein the ranked list of content is limited to a predetermined number of content items.   
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein:
 the method further comprises, in response to a selection of the option to preview the specific one of the content items, transmitting a clip from a server to the corresponding one of the mobile devices, the clip representing the specific one of the content items, the transmitting performed in a manner where the clip is rendered on but is not permanently stored on the corresponding one of the mobile devices; and   the method further comprises, in response to a selection of the option to purchase the specific one of the content items, transmitting from a server to the corresponding one of the mobile devices a file sufficient to convey a digital representation of the specific one of the content items, the file adapted for permanent storage and user-selective rendering on the corresponding one of mobile devices.   
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein:
 the method further comprises providing, in response to selection of the specific one of the content items, an option for the one of the users to view a discography of an artist corresponding to the specific one of the content items.   
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein:
 the method further comprises providing, in response to selection of the specific one of the content items, an option for the one of the users to view a biography of an artist corresponding to the specific one of the content items.   
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein:
 the method further comprises providing, in response to selection of the specific one of the content items, an option for the one of the users to view a photo of an artist corresponding to the specific one of the content items.   
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein:
 the method further comprises providing, in response to selection of the specific one of the content items, an option for the one of the users to purchase a ringtone corresponding to the specific one of the content items.   
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein:
 the method further comprises providing each one of the users with a user-interface resident on respective ones of the mobile devices, the user-interface operable to at determine, at least in part, a format for display of at least one of the chart view and the dedicated view.   
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein:
 the method further comprises providing each of the users with an option to set a customization option affecting display of content by the user-interface resident on respective ones of the mobile devices.   
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein:
 the chart view is limited to content items corresponding to the genre selected by the one of the users.   
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein:
 the ranked list is a first ranked list; and   the method further comprises providing via the cellular network to each of the users multiple ranked lists of content items, including the first ranked list, each one of the multiple ranked lists limited to a predetermined number of the content items available for purchase from the content store.   
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 11 , wherein the predetermined number for the first ranked list is common to at least another one of the multiple ranked lists. 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein:
 the dedicated view for the specific one is formatted to include at least a title, a year, and a photo.   
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 2  wherein:
 the method further comprises providing the one of the users with a backward navigation option adapted to permit the one of the users to directly navigate back from the dedicated view to the chart view. 
 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the method further comprises:
 providing an option for the one of the users to view third party reviews of the specific one of the content items; and   in response to a user selection of the option to view the third party reviews, forwarding the third party reviews to the one of the users for display on the corresponding one of the mobile devices.   
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein:
 the method further comprises providing an application resident on each of the mobile devices to display the chart view and the dedicated view, wherein the application comprises instructions for presenting content according to a menu structure at least partially established by the application.   
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein:
 the method further comprises providing the one of the users with an option to receive a ranked list of songs specific to a user-selected artist.   
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein:
 the method further comprises providing the user with an option to select a desired one of a list of songs from a particular artist and a list of albums from the particular artist; and   in response to user selection of the desired one, made via the corresponding one of the mobile devices, providing a dedicated view for the desired one for display on the corresponding one of the mobile devices.   
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein:
 the chart view is formatted such that no more than ten of the content items in the ranked list are concurrently viewable from display on the mobile device.   
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein:
 the chart view is formatted such that no more than five of the content items in the ranked list are concurrently viewable from display on the mobile device.   
     
     
         21 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein providing the option for the one of the users to preview the specific one of the content items includes providing the option for the one of the users to preview the specific one of the content items within the dedicated view, and wherein providing the option for the one of the users to purchase the specific one of the content items includes providing the option for the one of the users to preview the specific one of the content items within the dedicated view.
