Abstract

CO 2 -sequestering formed building materials are provided. The building materials of the invention include a composition comprising a carbonate/bicarbonate component. Additional aspects of the invention include methods of making and using the CO 2 -sequestering formed building material.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
- 30 . (canceled)

. A formed building material, comprising: a sequestered-CO 2 component, wherein the sequestered-CO 2 component comprises at least 50% w/w calcium carbonate wherein the calcium carbonate comprises vaterite, aragonite, or combinations thereof, wherein the sequestered-CO 2 component has a δ 13 C less than −15%, and wherein the formed building material is a construction panel.

. The formed building material of claim 31 , wherein the construction panel is a cement board.

. The formed building material of claim 32 , wherein the cement board has a flexural strength of between 1-7.5 MPa, compressive strength of between 5-50 MPa, or both.

. The formed building material of claim 32 , wherein the cement board further comprises fiberglass.

. The formed building material of claim 31 , wherein the construction panel is a drywall.

. The formed building material of claim 35 , wherein the drywall has a flexural strength of between 0.1-3 MPa, compressive strength of between 1-40 MPa, or both.

. The formed building material of claim 35 , wherein the drywall further comprises paper, gypsum, fiberglass, or combinations thereof.

. The formed building material of claim 31 , wherein the construction panel is a fiber-cement siding.

. The formed building material of claim 38 , wherein the fiber-cement siding has a flexural strength of between 0.5-5 MPa, compressive strength of between 2-25 MPa, or both.

. The formed building material of claim 31 , wherein the formed building material has a compressive strength of between 5-100 MPa.

. The formed building material of claim 31 , wherein the construction panel further comprises additional component selected from clay, shale, soft slate, calcium silicate, quarried stone, Portland cement, metakaolin, cement, aggregate, silica fume, pozzolan, and combinations thereof.

. The formed building material of claim 31 , wherein the construction panel further comprises additive selected from anti-desiccant, plasticizer, fibrous material, accelerator, set retarder, foaming agent, air entrainment additive, mildew resistance agent, fire resistance agent, polyvinyl alcohol, and combinations thereof.

. The formed building material of claim 31 , wherein the construction panel further comprises recycled material selected from fly ash, slag, cement kiln dust, and combinations thereof.

. The formed building material of claim 31 , wherein the calcium carbonate further comprises calcite.

. The formed building material of claim 31 , wherein the sequestered-CO 2 component further comprises co-products from NOx, SOx, VOCs, particulates, mercury, or combinations thereof.
