Pharmaceutical compositions comprising cannabigerol

Abstract

The present invention relates to the use of cannabigerol (CBG) type compounds and derivatives thereof in the treatment of mood disorders.

1 . A method of treating a mood disorder in a human patient which comprises administering to a patient in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of at least one cannabigerol type compound or derivative. 
     
     
         2 . The method as claimed in  claim 1 , wherein the mood disorder to be treated is one or more of the following; morbid or clinical depression; unipolar mood disorder; bipolar mood disorder; syndromal depression; panic disorder and anxiety. 
     
     
         3 . The method as claimed in  claim 2 , wherein the mood disorder to be treated is depression. 
     
     
         4 . The method as claimed in  claim 1 , wherein the at least one cannabigerol type compound or derivative thereof is an extract from a  cannabis  plant. 
     
     
         5 . The method as claimed in  claim 4 , wherein the extract from the  cannabis  plant comprises all of the naturally occurring cannabinoids and other non-cannabinoid components that are co-extracted with the at least one cannabigerol type compound or derivative thereof. 
     
     
         6 . The method as claimed in  claim 4 , wherein the extract from the  cannabis  plant is enriched for cannabigerol. 
     
     
         7 . The method as claimed in  claim 1 , wherein the  cannabis  plant extract contains a greater than or equal to 80% (w/w) cannabigerol of the total cannabinoid content. 
     
     
         8 . The method as claimed in  claim 7 , wherein the  cannabis  plant extract contains greater than or equal to 90% (w/w) cannabigerol of the total cannabinoid content. 
     
     
         9 . The method as claimed in  claim 8 , wherein the  cannabis  plant extract contains greater than or equal to 95% w/w) cannabigerol of the total cannabinoid content. 
     
     
         10 . The method as claimed in  claim 9 , wherein the  cannabis  plant extract contains greater than or equal to 99% (w/w) cannabigerol of the total cannabinoid content. 
     
     
         11 . The method as claimed in  claim 1 , wherein the at least one cannabigerol type compound or derivative thereof is isolated or substantially pure. 
     
     
         12 . The method as claimed in  claim 1 , wherein the pharmaceutical formulation is formulated for delivery nasally, sublingually, buccally, topically, orally, rectally, intravenously, intra-peritoneally, intra-muscularly, subcutaneously, transdermally, intra-vaginally, intra-urethrally, by nebuliser, as inhaled vapour or by instillation into the bladder. 
     
     
         13 . The method as claimed in  claim 1 , wherein a unit dosage form comprises at least one cannabigerol type compound or derivative thereof in an amount of 0.1 to 1000 mg. 
     
     
         14 . A method of treating a mood disorder in a human patient which comprises administering to a patient in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of at least one cannabigerol type compound or derivative, wherein the pharmaceutical formulation further comprises one or more additional cannabinoids. 
     
     
         15 . The method as claimed in  claim 14 , wherein the one or more additional cannabinoids is cannabidiol (CBD). 
     
     
         16 . The method as claimed in  claim 14 , wherein the one or more additional cannabinoids in cannabichromene (CBC). 
     
     
         17 . The method as claimed in  claim 1 , wherein the at least one cannabigerol type compound or derivative is cannabigerol (CBG). 
     
     
         18 . The method as claimed in  claim 1 , wherein the at least one cannabigerol type compound or derivative is cannabigerol propyl analogue (CBGV). 
     
     
         19 . The method as claimed in  claim 1 , wherein the at least one cannabigerol type compound or derivative is cannabigerol-dimethyl heptyl. 
     
     
         20 . The method as claimed in  claim 14 , wherein the at least one cannabigerol type compound or derivative is cannabigerol (CBG). 
     
     
         21 . The method as claimed in  claim 14 , wherein the at least one cannabigerol type compound or derivative is cannabigerol propyl analogue (CBGV). 
     
     
         22 . The method as claimed in  claim 14 , wherein the at least one cannabigerol type compound or derivative is cannabigerol-dimethyl heptyl.
