Abstract

Techniques to improve location accuracy for a map are described. An apparatus may comprise a mobile computing device. The mobile computing device may include a map management module to move a location identifier representing a location from a first position to a second position on an electronic map in accordance with digital map correction information as defined by a user. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified

         25 . A system, comprising:
a radio sub-system; a processing sub-system to connect to said radio sub-system; and a map management module for execution by said processing system, said map management module to move a location identifier representing a location from a first position to a second position on an electronic map in accordance with received digital map correction information.

26 . The system of claim 25 , comprising a map location module to generate map location correction information for said location, said map location correction information to replace predefined map location information for said location.

27 . The system of claim 25 , comprising a map correction module to store said map location correction information in a map correction database.

28 . The system of claim 25 , comprising a map display module to display said location identifier at said second position on said electronic map using said map location correction information.

29 . The system of claim 25 , comprising a map display module to display said electronic map using multiple layers, with one of said layers to include a user correction layer to display said location identifier at said second position on said electronic map using said map location correction information.

30 . The system of claim 25 , said map location correction information to include longitude coordinates and latitude coordinates.

31 . The system of claim 25 , said map location correction information to include longitude coordinates, latitude coordinates, and altitude information.

         32 . A mobile computing device, comprising:
a processor; a map management module, executed by the processor, to move a location identifier representing a point of interest from a first position to a second position on an electronic map in accordance with received digital map correction information; and a map display module to display said location identifier at said second position on said electronic map using map location correction information.

33 . The mobile computing device of claim 32 , comprising a map location module to generate corrected latitude and longitude coordinates for the point of interest corresponding to the second position on the electronic map, the corrected latitude and longitude coordinates to replace predefined latitude and longitude coordinates for the point of interest.

34 . The mobile computing device of claim 32 , comprising a map correction module to store said map location correction information in a map correction database.

35 . The mobile computing device of claim 32 , comprising the map display module to display said electronic map using multiple layers, with one of said layers to include a user correction layer.

36 . The mobile computing device of claim 32 , said map location correction information to include longitude coordinates and latitude coordinates.

37 . The mobile computing device of claim 32 , said map location correction information to include longitude coordinates, latitude coordinates, and altitude information.

38 . The mobile computing device of claim 32 , said map display module to display a location identifier by modifying a map address lookup algorithm.

         39 . A computer-implemented method, comprising:
receiving, by a mobile device, digital map correction information, moving, by a processor of the mobile device, a location identifier representing a point of interest from a first position to a second position on an electronic map in accordance with the digital map correction information; generating, by the processor, corrected latitude and longitude coordinates for the point of interest corresponding to the second position on the electronic map, the corrected latitude and longitude coordinates to replace predefined latitude and longitude coordinates for the point of interest; and displaying said location identifier at said second position on said electronic map using said corrected latitude and longitude coordinates.

40 . The method of claim 39 , wherein the predefined latitude and longitude coordinates being defined by a provider of the electronic map.

41 . The method of claim 39 , wherein said electronic map uses multiple layers, with one of said layers to include a user correction layer.

42 . An article of manufacture comprising a computer-readable storage medium containing instructions that, when executed by a processor, enable a system to:
receive digital map correction information at a mobile computing device indicating a position for a location identifier via an electronic map, the location identifier representing a location; move the location identifier representing the location from a first position to a second position on the electronic map in accordance with the digital map correction information; and display said electronic map with a user correction layer to display said location identifier at said second position on said electronic map using said map location correction information.

43 . The article of claim 42 , further comprising instructions that if executed enable the system to store said map location correction information in a map correction database.

44 . The article of claim 42 , further comprising instructions that if executed enable the system to generate corrected latitude and longitude coordinates for the location corresponding to the second position on the electronic map, the corrected latitude and longitude coordinates to replace predefined latitude and longitude coordinates for the location.
