Abstract

Method and apparatus for providing multiple data receiver units in a data monitoring and management system such as analyte monitoring system where a first data receiver includes all of the functionalities for the data monitoring and management system receiver unit, and a second data receiver unit is configured with limited functions to provide application specific convenience to the user or patient is disclosed.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A method of analyte monitoring, comprising:
receiving one or more signals associated with a monitored analyte level with a first electronic device; detecting, with the first electronic device, a second electronic device in a power on state; and powering down the first electronic device when the second electronic device is detected to be in the power on state.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further including communicating, with the first electronic device, the one or more signals associated with the monitored analyte level to the second electronic device.

3 . The method of claim 1 , further including communicating, with the first electronic device, the one or more signals associated with the monitored analyte level to the second electronic device before the first electronic device is powered down.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein detecting with the first electronic device whether the second electronic device is in the power on state includes receiving a power on state signal from the second electronic device.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein detecting with the first electronic device whether the second electronic device is in the power on state includes periodically transmitting a signal, and receiving a return acknowledgement signal from the second electronic device.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein powering down the first electronic device includes executing a hibernate mode.

7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the first electronic device does not accept signals communicated from the second electronic device when in the hibernate mode.

8 . The method of claim 2 , wherein communicating the one or more signals from the first electronic device to the second electronic device includes performing data synchronization.

9 . The method of claim 2 , including receiving with the second electronic device additional one or more signals associated with the analyte level being monitored.

10 . The method of claim 2 , wherein communicating the one or more signals from the first electronic device to the second electronic device includes establishing a communication link between the first electronic device and the second electronic device.

11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the communication link includes one or more of an infrared communication link, a radio frequency communication link, a short range communication link, or a cable connection.

12 . The method of claim 1 , including outputting the one or more signals associated with the monitored analyte level on a user interface of the first or the second electronic devices.

13 . The method of claim 12 , further including outputting on the user interface of one or more of the first or the second electronic devices additional one or more signals associated with the monitored analyte level.

14 . The method of claim 13 , including outputting trend information on the user interface based at least in part on the one or more signals associated with the monitored analyte level and the additional one or more signals associated with the monitored analyte level.

15 . The method of claim 12 , including outputting trend information on the user interface based at least in part on the one or more signals associated with the monitored analyte level.

16 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving a time information associated with a duration of a power off state of the first electronic device.

17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the time information includes a time information of the beginning of the power off state or a time information of the beginning of the power on state.

18 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the communicated one or more signals includes one or more signals received with the first electronic device during the duration of a power off state of the second electronic device.

19 . The method of claim 1 , including receiving additional one or more signals associated with the analyte level being monitored with the first electronic device.

20 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the received one or more signals associated with the monitored analyte level is obtained by an analyte sensor including a plurality of electrodes, wherein the plurality of electrodes include a working electrode comprising an analyte-responsive enzyme and a mediator, wherein at least one of the analyte-responsive enzyme and the mediator is chemically bonded to a polymer disposed on the working electrode, and wherein at least one of the analyte-responsive enzyme and the mediator is crosslinked with the polymer.
