System and method for data capture and reporting

Abstract

A database system includes an intermediary program that provides a variety of functions. Logging on to the intermediary program results in log-in information being transmitted from an encrypted file to the database system via the intermediary program. The database system includes the ability for the user to enter criteria for a query in a variety of different manners, including the ability to directly modify generated SQL statements and the ability to use input lists in creating queries. In addition, the queries entered by the user can he stored in a separate database, such that the efficiency and operation of the database system can he improved. In addition, the delivery of query results and reports allows for delivery of files that are associated with a data period in any format and also allows the user to receive multiple reports in a single, compressed file.

1 . A method comprising:
 receiving, by a computer for facilitating execution of a query on a database, a query type and input data;   retrieving, by the computer, a query template based on the query type;   feeding, by the computer, at least a portion of the input data into the query template to create the query; and   executing, by the computer, the query on the database.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising receiving, by the computer, a user specification of at least one of the query type and the input data. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising receiving, by the computer, a user specification of at least one of the query type and the input data, wherein the user specification is facilitated by at least one of links, drop-down menus, pop-up lists, radio buttons, and check boxes. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 storing, by the computer, at least a portion of the input data; and   retrieving, by the computer, at least a portion of the input data based on a subsequent request from a user.   
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein an input list comprises the input data, and wherein the input list includes a query criteria relating to a field in the database and a query field, wherein the query criteria is specified by a user. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the query is written in at least one of Structured Query Language (SQL), Perl, VBScript, Korn Shell, and JavaScript. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein an input list comprises the input data, and wherein the input list is stored with a profile corresponding to a user. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 retrieving, by the computer, a report file template based on the query type;   inserting, by the computer, an output of the executing of the query, into a report file template to produce a report file.   
     
     
         9 . A system comprising:
 a processor for facilitating execution of a query on a database;   an input module in communication with the processor and configured to receive a query type and input data;   a query module in communication with the processor and configured to retrieve a query template based on the query type;   the query module is further configured to feed at least a portion of the input data into the query template to create the query; and   an execution module in communication with the processor and configured to execute the query on the database.   
     
     
         10 . The system of  claim 9 , wherein the input module is further configured to receive a user specification of at least one of the query type and the input data. 
     
     
         11 . The system of  claim 9 , wherein the input module is further configured to receive a user specification of at least one of the query type and the input data, wherein the user specification is facilitated by at least one of links, drop-down menus, pop-up lists, radio buttons, and check boxes. 
     
     
         12 . The system of  claim 9 , further comprising a storage module configured to:
 store at least a portion of the input data; and   retrieve at least a portion of the input data based on a subsequent request from a user.   
     
     
         13 . The system of  claim 9 , wherein an input list comprises the input data, and wherein the input list includes a query criteria relating to a field in the database and a query field, wherein the query criteria is specified by a user. 
     
     
         14 . The system of  claim 9 , wherein the query is written in at least one of SQL Perl, VBScript, Korn Shell, and JavaScript. 
     
     
         15 . The system of  claim 9 , wherein an input list comprises the input data, and wherein the input list is stored with a profile corresponding to a user. 
     
     
         16 . The system of  claim 9 , further comprising:
 a plurality of report file templates; and   a report module in communication with the processor and configured to retrieve a report file template based on the query type and insert an output into the report file template to produce a report file.   
     
     
         17 . A system comprising:
 a database including transaction records;   a processor for facilitating execution of a query script on the database;   a plurality of script templates;   an input module configured to receive a query type and parameters for analysis of the transaction records;   a query module in communication with the processor and configured to retrieve a script template based on the query type;   the query module further configured to feed at least a portion of the parameters into the script template, to produce the query script; and   an execution module in communication with the processor and configured to execute the query script on the database to return output.   
     
     
         18 . The system of  claim 17 , wherein the parameters comprise at least a portion of input data. 
     
     
         19 . The system of  claim 18 , wherein an input list comprises the input data, and wherein the input list includes a query criteria relating to a field in the database and a query field, wherein the query criteria is specified by a user. 
     
     
         20 . The system of  claim 17 , wherein the input module is further configured to receive a user specification of at least one of the query type and the parameters for analysis of the transaction records, wherein the user specification is facilitated by at least one of links, drop-down menus, pop-up lists, radio buttons, and check boxes. 
     
     
         21 . The system of  claim 17 , further comprising:
 a plurality of report file templates; and   a report module in communication with the processor and configured to retrieve a report file template based on the query type and insert the output into the report file template to produce a report file.
