Abstract

A method may include identifying a content item associated with a contributor. Users may be invited to review the content item. A survey adapted to estimate engagement with the content item by a plurality of the users may be provided to the users. Results of the survey may be received from the plurality of the users. Popularity of the content item with respect to the plurality of the users may be determined from the results of the survey. At least a subset of the plurality of the users may be categorized based on the popularity of the content item with respect to the plurality of the users.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A method comprising:
 identifying a content item associated with a contributor; inviting, using a processor, users to review the content item; providing, to the users, a survey adapted to estimate engagement with the content item by a plurality of the users; receiving results of the survey from the plurality of the users; determining, from the results of the survey, popularity of the content item with respect to the plurality of the users; categorizing at least a subset of the plurality of the users based on the popularity of the content item with respect to the plurality of the users.

         2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the survey is created by the contributor.

         3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the content item has been aggregated with other content items to create a group of content items, and the survey is adapted to estimate engagement of the group by the plurality of the users.

         4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the group of content items is associated with the contributor.

         5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein categorizing the at least a subset of the plurality of the users comprises determining whether the at least a subset of the plurality of the users is a user minority attempting to bury the content item to hide the content item.

         6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising compensating the at least a subset of the plurality of the users.

         7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein compensating the at least a subset of the plurality of the users comprises sharing revenue with the at least a subset of the plurality of the users.

         8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the content item comprises one or more of: a video, an image, a news article, a tweet, and a weblog.

         9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the survey is provided using one or more of: email, Short Message Service (SMS), Multimedia Message Service (MMS), and a changed indicia on a web browser.

         10 . A system comprising:
 a content datastore; an aggregation engine coupled to the content datastore; a polling engine coupled to the content datastore; a survey engine coupled to the content datastore; an apparent-interest engine coupled to the content datastore; a results processing engine coupled to the content datastore; wherein, in operation:
 the aggregation engine identifies a content item associated with a contributor;
 the polling engine invites users to review the content item;
 the survey engine provides, to the users, a survey adapted to estimate engagement with the content item by a plurality of the users, and receives results of the survey from the plurality of the users;
 the apparent-interest engine determines, from the results of the survey, popularity of the content item with respect to the plurality of the users;
 the results processing engine categorizes at least a subset of the plurality of the users based on the popularity of the content item with respect to the plurality of the users.

         11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the survey is created by the contributor.

         12 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the content item has been aggregated with other content items to create a group of content items, and the survey is adapted to estimate engagement of the group by the plurality of the users.

         13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the group of content items is associated with the contributor.

         14 . The system of claim 10 , wherein categorizing the at least a subset of the plurality of the users comprises determining whether the at least a subset of the plurality of the users is a user minority attempting to bury the content item to hide the content item.

         15 . The system of claim 10 , further comprising compensating the at least a subset of the plurality of the users.

         16 . The system of claim 15 , wherein compensating the at least a subset of the plurality of the users comprises sharing revenue with the at least a subset of the plurality of the users.

         17 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the content item comprises one or more of: a video, an image, a news article, a tweet, and a weblog.

         18 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the survey is provided using one or more of: email, Short Message Service (SMS), Multimedia Message Service (MMS), and a changed indicia on a web browser.

         19 . A non-transitory computer storage medium storing computer-executable instructions that, when executed, cause a computer system to perform a computer-implemented method comprising:
 identifying a content item associated with a contributor; inviting, using a processor, users to review the content item; providing, to the users, a survey adapted to estimate engagement with the content item by a plurality of the users; receiving results of the survey from the plurality of the users; determining, from the results of the survey, popularity of the content item with respect to the plurality of the users; categorizing at least a subset of the plurality of the users based on the popularity of the content item with respect to the plurality of the users.
