System and Method for Combining Two or More Songs in a Queue
Abstract
A system, computer program product and method for altering the playback of one or more song recordings is described herein. Embodiments of the system comprise a decision engine having logic for using metadata for the one or more song recordings. The logic performs the steps of interpreting the metadata to identify a plurality of bar/beat locations for the one or more song recordings; responsive to playback of at least one of the song recordings, determining whether the song recording is playing at one of the bar/beat locations; and in response to determining that the song recording is playing at one of the bar/beat locations, forming the altered playback by performing via real time digital audio signal processing at least one of: altering a segue between song recordings, altering a form of at least one of the song recordings, and altering an instrumentation of at least one of the song recordings.

interpreting the metadata to identify a plurality of bar/beat locations for the one or more song recordings;
responsive to playback of at least one of the song recordings, determining whether the song recording is playing at one of the bar/beat locations; and
in response to determining that the song recording is playing at one of the bar/beat locations, forming the altered playback by performing via real time digital audio signal processing at least one of: creating a segue between song recordings, altering a form of at least one of the song recordings, and altering an instrumentation of at least one of the song recordings.
2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the decision engine further performs the step of:
determining, based upon metadata tagging at each bar/beat location, whether the bar/beat location is a start, a stop, or a “loop” bar/beat location.
3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the decision engine further performs the step of:
responsive to the one or more songs being selected to play, determining whether the song is playing a song object.
4 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the decision engine further performs the steps of:
determining whether another song object in another song recording conforms to a tempo of the song recording playing; and replacing the song object of the song recording playing with the another song object of the another song object.
5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the decision engine further performs the step of:
pitch-shifting the another song object to conform with a pitch of the song object of the sound recording playing.
6 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the decision engine further performs the step of:
responsive to pitch-shifting the another song object, mixing the another song object with the song recording playing.
7 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the decision engine further performs the step of:
determining a key change in the song recording playing, wherein the pitch shift of another song object is adjusted according to the key change.
8 . A system for altering the playback of one or more song recordings, the system comprising:
a decision engine having logic for using metadata for the one or more song recordings, the logic performing the steps of:
interpreting the metadata to identify a plurality of harmonic (chordal) phrase locations for the one or more song recordings;
responsive to playback of at least one of the song recordings, determining whether the song recording is playing at one of the harmonic (chordal) phrase locations; and
in response to determining that the song recording is playing at one of the harmonic (chordal) phrase locations, forming the altered playback by performing via real time digital audio signal processing at least one of: creating a segue between song recordings, altering a form of at least one of the song recordings, and altering an instrumentation of at least one of the song recordings.
9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the decision engine further performs the step of:
determining a bar/beat location corresponding to each of the phrase locations and whether the bar/beat location is a start, a stop, or a “loop” bar/beat location.
10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the decision engine further performs the step of:
responsive to the one or more songs being selected to play, determining whether the song is playing at the bar/beat location corresponding to one of the plurality of phrase locations, wherein the phrase location and bar/beat location define a song object, and the song object has a tempo.
11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the decision engine further performs the steps of:
determining whether another song object in another song recording conforms to a tempo of the song recording playing; and replacing the song object of the song recording playing with the another song object of the another song recording when the tempo conforms.
12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the decision engine further performs the step of:
pitch-shifting the another song object to conform with a pitch of the song object of the sound recording playing.
13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the decision engine further performs the step of:
responsive to pitch-shifting the another song object, mixing the another song object with the song recording playing.
14 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the decision engine further performs the step of:
determining a key change in the song recording playing, wherein the pitch shift of another song object is adjusted according to the key change.
15 . A computer-implemented method executed by a decision engine for mixing two or more songs into a single composition using at least one attribute of each song, the decision engine performing the steps of:
analyzing at least two of the songs to determine a bar/beat location for each song and whether each bar/beat location is a start, a stop, or a “loop” bar/beat location; analyzing the at least two songs to determine a harmonic phrase location; and determining a segue for the at least two songs based upon whether the bar/beat locations is a “start” or a “loop” bar/beat location or corresponds to the harmonic phrase location.
16 . The computer-implemented method of claim 15 , wherein the decision engine further performs the steps of:
responsive to one of the songs being selected to play, determining whether the song is playing at the bar/beat location corresponding to the harmonic phrase location; responsive to determining that the song is playing at the bar/beat location corresponding to the harmonic phrase location, defining a beginning of a song object for the song playing as the harmonic phrase location; and replaying another song of the two or more songs at the harmonic phrase location.
17 . The computer-implemented method of claim 16 , wherein the decision engine further performs the steps of:
determining whether another song object in the another song conforms to a tempo of the song playing; and replacing the song object of the song playing with the another song object when the tempo conforms.
18 . The computer-implemented method of claim 17 , wherein the decision engine further performs the step of:
pitch-shifting the another song object to conform with the pitch of the song object of the song playing.
19 . The computer-implemented method of claim 18 , wherein the decision engine further performs the step of:
responsive to pitch-shifting the another song object, mixing the another song object with the song playing.
20 . The computer-implemented method of claim 19 , wherein the decision engine further performs the step of:
