Abstract

In a method for determining charges for content or services over a network, the method includes determining first charging information for rendering content or a service and usage of a service layer of the network, determining second charging information for usage of a network layer based on transmission related to the requested service or content, and correlating the first charging information and the second charging information to generate a single charge for an overall transaction, wherein the overall transaction includes charges for the content or service, the usage of the service layer of the network, and the usage of the network layer of the network.

What is claimed is:

1 . A method for determining charges for content or services over a network, the method comprising:
determining first charging information for rendering content or a service and usage of a service layer of the network; determining second charging information for usage of a network layer based on transmission related to the requested service or content; and correlating the first charging information and the second charging information to generate a single charge for an overall transaction, wherein the overall transaction includes charges for the content or service, the usage of the service layer of the network, and the usage of the network layer of the network.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the service layer and the network layer are within a plurality of layers.

3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining metadata for the service layer and network layer.

4 . The method of claim 3 , further comprising correlating the first charging information, and the metadata for the service layer, with the second charging information, and the metadata for the network layer.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein correlating the first charging information, and the metadata for the service layer, with the second charging information, and the metadata for the network layer generates a correlated charge.

6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein generating the single charge comprises adjusting a charge generated for the service layer or the network layer based on correlated charge.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the single charge is generated for the content purchased and the transmission of the content.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the single charge is generated for the service purchased and transmission related to the service.

9 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium having sets of instructions stored thereon which, when executed by a computer, cause the computer to:
determine first charging information for rendering content or a service and usage of a service layer of the network; determine second charging information for usage of a network layer based on transmission related to the requested service or content; and correlate the first charging information and the second charging information to generate a single charge for an overall transaction, wherein the overall transaction includes charges for the content or service, the usage of the service layer of the network, and the usage of the network layer of the network.

10 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 9 , wherein the service layer and the network layer are within a plurality of layers.

11 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 9 , wherein the sets of instructions when further executed by the computer, cause the computer to determine metadata for the service layer and network layer.

12 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the sets of instructions when further executed by the computer, cause the computer to correlate the first charging information, and the metadata for the service layer, with the second charging information, and the metadata for the network layer.

13 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 12 , wherein correlating the first charging information, and the metadata for the service layer, with the second charging information, and the metadata for the network layer generates a correlated charge.

14 . A system for determining charges for content or services, the method comprising:
a memory device having sets of instructions stored thereon; and a computer processor in communication with the memory device, wherein when the computer processor execute the sets of instructions, the computer processor is caused to:
 determine first charging information for rendering content or a service and usage of a service layer of the network;
determine second charging information for usage of a network layer based on transmission related to the requested service or content; and
correlate the first charging information and the second charging information to generate a single charge for an overall transaction, wherein the overall transaction includes charges for the content or service, the usage of the service layer of the network, and the usage of the network layer of the network.

15 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the service layer and the network layer are within a plurality of layers.

16 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the sets of instructions when further executed by the computer processor, cause the computer processor to determine metadata for the service layer and network layer.

17 . The system of claim 16 , wherein the sets of instructions when further executed by the computer processor, cause the computer processor to correlate the first charging information, and the metadata for the service layer, with the second charging information, and the metadata for the network layer.

18 . The system of claim 17 , wherein correlating the first charging information, and the metadata for the service layer, with the second charging information, and the metadata for the network layer generates a correlated charge.

19 . The system of claim 18 , wherein generating the single charge comprises adjusting a charge generated for the service layer or the network layer based on correlated charge.

20 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the single charge is generated for the content purchased and the transmission of the content.
