Method and apparatus for managing broadcast for portable terminal

Abstract

An apparatus including a broadcasting receiver, a controller, a display unit and an audio output unit is provided. The broadcasting receiver is configured to receive a broadcasting signal, and the controller is configured to determine, when the broadcasting receiver receives the broadcasting signal, a state of at least one of the display unit and the audio output unit, and is configured to determine whether to receive supplementary information through the broadcasting receiver based on the state of the at least one of the display unit and the audio output unit.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . An apparatus comprising a broadcasting receiver, a controller, a display unit and an audio output unit,
 wherein the broadcasting receiver is configured to receive a broadcasting signal, and   wherein the controller is configured to determine, when the broadcasting receiver receives the broadcasting signal, a state of at least one of the display unit and the audio output unit, and is configured to determine whether to receive supplementary information through the broadcasting receiver based on the state of the at least one of the display unit and the audio output unit.   
     
     
         2 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to receive the supplementary information, from the broadcasting receiver, as a form of text when the display unit is determined to be turned on. 
     
     
         3 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured not to receive the supplementary information, from the broadcasting receiver, as a form of text when the display unit is determined to be turned off. 
     
     
         4 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the broadcasting receiver is controlled not to receive the supplementary information as a form of text by the controller when the display unit is determined to be turned off. 
     
     
         5 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to receive the supplementary information, from the broadcasting receiver, as a form of sound when the audio output unit is determined to be turned on. 
     
     
         6 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured not to receive the supplementary information, from the broadcasting receiver, as a form of sound when the audio output unit is determined to be in a silent mode. 
     
     
         7 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the broadcasting receiver is controlled not to receive the supplementary information as a form of sound by the controller when the audio output unit is determined to be in a silent mode. 
     
     
         8 . A method of receiving supplementary information included in a broadcast signal for a portable terminal including a controller, the method comprising:
 determining, when a broadcasting receiver of the portable terminal receives a broadcasting signal, a state of at least one of a display unit and an audio output unit, and   determining whether to receive supplementary information through the broadcasting receiver based on a state of at least one of the display unit and the audio output unit.   
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein the determining of whether to receive the supplementary information comprises:
 controlling the controller to receive the supplementary information, from the broadcasting receiver, as a form of text when the state of the display unit is determined to be turned on.   
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein the determining of whether to receive the supplementary information comprises:
 controlling the controller to not receive the supplementary information, from the broadcasting receiver, as a form of text when the state of the display unit is determined to be turned off.   
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein the determining of whether to receive the supplementary information comprises:
 controlling the broadcasting receiver to not receive the supplementary information as a form of text by the controller when the state of the display unit is determined to be turned off.   
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein the determining of whether to receive the supplementary information comprises:
 controlling the controller to receive the supplementary information, from the broadcasting receiver, as a form of sound when a state of the audio output unit is determined to be turned on.   
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein the determining of whether to receive the supplementary information comprises:
 controlling the controller to not receive the supplementary information, from the broadcasting receiver, as a form of sound when the audio output unit is determined to be in a silent mode.   
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein the determining of whether to receive the supplementary information comprises:
 controlling the broadcasting receiver to not receive the supplementary information as a form of sound by the controller when the audio output unit is determined to be in a silent mode.
