Abstract
A sheet processing apparatus, by which a failure in control does not occur even if cutting wastes are conveyed by a conveying unit and an image forming apparatus having the sheet processing apparatus are provided. The sheet processing apparatus has a cutter unit for cutting a sheet, a dust box for accommodating the cutting wastes, a conveying belt pair which conveys the cut sheet, sensors for detecting the sheet conveyed by the conveying belt pair, and a controller for controlling conveyance of the sheet based on the signals detected by the sensors, wherein when the length of the sheet detected by the sensor is equal to or less than a predetermined amount, the controller does not determine the sheet as a sheet.

1 . A sheet processing apparatus comprising:
a cutting unit which cuts a sheet; a conveying unit which conveys the sheet cut by the cutting unit; a detection unit which detects a passage of the sheet conveyed by the conveying unit; and a controller which determines a length in the sheet conveying direction of the conveyed sheet based on a detection result of the detection unit, wherein, when the determined length in the sheet conveying direction of the conveyed sheet is equal to or less than a predetermined length, the controller does not count the number of the conveyed sheet, and controls the conveying unit so that conveyance of the conveyed sheet is continued, and when the determined length in the sheet conveying direction of the conveyed sheet is longer than the predetermined length, the controller counts the number of the conveyed sheet, and controls the conveying unit so that conveyance of the conveyed sheet is continued.
2 . The sheet processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the cutting unit cuts a sheet into a cut sheet and cutting waste, and the predetermined length is a length in the sheet conveying direction of a maximum cutting waste.
3 . The sheet processing apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising:
a folding unit which folds a plurality of sheets in two, wherein the cutting unit cuts ends opposite to a folded end of the folded sheets folded by the folding unit.

The sheet processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the controller controls the conveying unit based on the detection result of the detection unit so that, when the determined length in the sheet conveying direction of the conveyed sheet is longer than the length in the sheet conveying direction according to the size of a sheet to be conveyed in the apparatus, the sheet is stopped by a determination that a sheet jam occurs.
5 . The sheet processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the conveying unit has a conveying belt, and the conveying belt conveys the sheet cut by the cutting unit.
6 . The sheet processing apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein the detection unit is disposed at a midpoint of the conveying belt.

The sheet processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein when the determined length in the sheet conveying direction of the conveyed sheet is longer than the length in the sheet conveying direction of a sheet having a maximum length which can be conveyed by the conveying unit, the controller determines that sheet jam occurs and stops conveyance of the sheet.
8 . The sheet processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the conveying unit can continuously convey cut sheets and cutting waste in the sheet conveying direction from upstream to downstream of the position at which the detection unit detects a sheet.
9 . The sheet processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein,
when the detection unit is in a sheet detection state before conveyance of the sheet begins, the controller controls the conveying unit so that the sheet is conveyed by a conveying amount corresponding to the predetermined length, and when the detection result of the detection unit is changed after the sheet is conveyed by the conveying amount, the controller does not count the number of the conveyed sheet.
10 . The sheet processing apparatus according to claim 2 , wherein the predetermined length is less than a length in the sheet conveying direction of a minimum cut sheet to be conveyed by the conveying unit.
11 . An image forming apparatus comprising an image forming unit and a sheet processing apparatus which cuts and conveys a sheet on which an image is formed,
wherein the sheet processing apparatus includes: a cutting unit which cuts a sheet; a conveying unit which conveys the sheet cut by the cutting unit; a detection unit which detects a passage of the sheet conveyed by the conveying unit; and a controller which determines a length in the sheet conveying direction of the conveyed sheet based on a detection result of the detection unit, wherein, when the determined length in the sheet conveying direction of the conveyed sheet is equal to or less than a predetermined length, the controller does not count the number of the conveyed sheet, and controls the conveying unit so that conveyance of the conveyed sheet is continued, and when the determined length in the sheet conveying direction of the conveyed sheet is longer than the predetermined length, the controller counts the number of the conveyed sheet and controls the conveying unit so that conveyance of the conveyed sheet is continued.
12 . The image forming apparatus according to claim 11 , wherein the cutting unit cuts a sheet into a cut sheet and cutting waste, and the predetermined length is a length in the sheet conveying direction of a maximum cutting waste.
13 . The image forming apparatus according to claim 11 , further comprising:
a folding unit folds a plurality of sheets in two, wherein the cutting unit cuts ends opposite to a folded end of the folded sheets folded by the folding unit.

The image forming apparatus according to claim 11 , wherein, the controller controls the conveying unit based on the detection result of the detection unit so that when the determined length in the sheet conveying direction of the conveyed sheet is longer than the length in the sheet conveying direction according to the size of a sheet to be conveyed in the apparatus, the sheet is stopped by a determination that a sheet jam occurs.
15 . The image forming apparatus according to claim 11 , wherein the conveying unit has a conveying belt, and the conveying belt conveys the sheet cut by the cutting unit.
16 . The image forming apparatus according to claim 15 , wherein the detection unit is disposed at a midpoint of the conveying belt.
17 . The image forming apparatus according to claim 11 , wherein, when the determined length in the sheet conveying direction of the conveyed sheet is longer than the length in the sheet conveying direction of a sheet having a maximum length which can be conveyed by the conveying unit, the controller determines that sheet jam occurs and stops conveyance of the sheet.
18 . The image forming apparatus according to claim 11 , wherein the conveying unit can continuously convey cut sheets and cutting wastes in the sheet conveying direction from upstream of the position at which the detection unit detects a sheet to a downstream position.
19 . The image forming apparatus according to claim 11 , wherein,
when the detection unit is in a sheet detection state before conveyance of the sheet begins, the controller controls the conveying unit so that the sheet is conveyed by a conveying amount corresponding to the predetermined length, and when the detection result of the detection unit is changed after the sheet is conveyed by the conveying amount, the controller does not count the number of the conveyed sheet.
