Abstract

Systems and methods that facilitate data retrieval in a stateless environment by limiting amount of retrievable data associated with a single client request. A retrieval limitation component partially satisfies a query and retrieves an initial batch of information. Moreover, identifications can further be designated to retrieve additional information if so is required. Accordingly, an application requesting data thru a query can initially be supplied with a limited number of data, which subsequently can be followed by additional data items returned as unique identifiers.

Claims

What is claimed is:

1 . A method of retrieving data comprising:
partially satisfying a query submitted by an application as part of a data platform in a stateless environment; limiting a retrieval of information for the query based on a preliminary determination regarding whether to continue receiving information for the application, the preliminary determination made as the information is received; and supplying additional information for the query as unique identifiers.

2 . The method of claim 1 further comprising retrieving an initial batch of data from the data platform, in response to a single query by the application.

3 . The method of claim 2 further comprising explicitly requesting a number of full data items in response to the single query.

4 . The method of claim 3 further comprising retrieving data without a requirement to progress through data linearly.

5 . The method of claim 3 further comprising retrieving predetermined ranges of data for the query.

6 . The method of claim 3 further comprising automatically load balancing between web servers associated with the stateless environment.

7 . The method of claim 3 further comprising crafting user experiences in form of list views.

         8 . A computer-readable storage medium, comprising:
a memory component configured to store computer-readable instructions, the computer-readable instructions including instructions for performing the following acts: partially executing a query received from an application as part of a data platform in a stateless environment; performing a preliminary determination regarding whether to continue receiving information for the application, the preliminary determination made as the information is received; and limiting a retrieval of information for the query based on the preliminary determination.

9 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 8 , the acts further comprising supplying additional information for the query as unique identifiers.

10 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 8 , the acts further comprising retrieving an initial batch of data from the data platform.

11 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 10 , the acts further comprising requesting a number of full data items.

12 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , the acts further comprising retrieving data without a requirement to progress through data linearly.

13 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , the acts further comprising retrieving predetermined ranges of data for the query.

14 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , the acts further comprising load balancing between web servers associated with the stateless environment.

15 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , the acts further comprising crafting user experiences in form of list views.

16 . A computer-implemented system comprising at least one processor coupled to at least one machine-readable storage medium storing instructions executable by the at least one processor to implement:
a retrieval limitation component configured to limit a retrieval of information for an application based on a preliminary determination regarding whether to continue receiving information for the application, the preliminary determination made as the information is received; and an option component configured to provide an option to facilitate a subsequent retrieval of additional data.

17 . The computer-implemented system of claim 16 , the retrieval limitation component configured to receive the information from a data platform configured to supply data to a query associated with the application in a stateless environment.

18 . The computer-implemented system of claim 17 , the stateless environment including a web farm.

19 . The computer-implemented system of claim 17 , the data platform configured to supply the data as at least one of a virtual list or paged data.

20 . The computer-implemented system of claim 17 , the data platform further comprising a query processor.
