Abstract

A bow hunting broad-head system having a mechanical cutter which opens after impact. The broad-head flies to its destination with minimal drag and having good balance. After impact, the tip opens to a larger diameter creating a devastating wound and releases the payload inside the animal.

We claim: 
     
         1 . A payload delivery apparatus comprising;
 (i) a combination arrow tip assembly and a payload, the tip assembly having a release mechanism;   (ii) wherein the payload is at least partially disposed within and held by the tip assembly and   (iii) is released from the tip assembly at least partially in a target animal.   
     
     
         2 . The payload delivery apparatus according to  claim 1  wherein, the payload further comprises a venting configuration. 
     
     
         3 . The payload delivery apparatus according to  claim 1 , wherein the payload further comprises tabs that expand to hold the payload in the animal. 
     
     
         4 . The payload delivery apparatus according to  claim 1  wherein, the release mechanism further comprises at least one blade. 
     
     
         5 . The payload delivery apparatus according to  claim 4  wherein the blade is configured to release the payload using the force of an impact with the target animal. 
     
     
         6 . The payload delivery apparatus according to  claim 5  wherein in the distance between the blade and the payload is greater after the impact with the animal than the distance between the blade and the payload before the impact. 
     
     
         7 . The payload delivery apparatus according to  claim 1 , wherein the payload further comprises a delivery system. 
     
     
         8 . The payload delivery apparatus according to  claim 7  wherein, the delivery system comprises a bladder. 
     
     
         9 . The payload delivery apparatus according to  claim 8  wherein the bladder is filled with a dye. 
     
     
         10 . The payload delivery apparatus according to  claim 9  wherein, the bladder is designed to release the die when the payload comes in contact with the target animal. 
     
     
         11 . The payload delivery apparatus according to  claim 10  wherein, the releasing of the die involves rupturing the bladder. 
     
     
         12 . The payload delivery apparatus according to  claim 1  wherein, the payload comprises a portion of a tracking system. 
     
     
         13 . The payload delivery apparatus according to  claim 12  wherein, the tracking system comprises at least one element from the group consisting of: RFID tag, Radio transmitter, and GPS locator. 
     
     
         14 . The payload delivery apparatus according to  claim 12  wherein, the tracking system attaches to the outside of the target animal. 
     
     
         15 . The payload delivery apparatus according to  claim 1  wherein, the release mechanism further comprises blades for delivering the payload. 
     
     
         16 . The payload delivery apparatus according to  claim 15  wherein, the payload further comprises a set of blades that extend upon impact with the target animal 
     
     
         17 . The payload delivery apparatus according to  claim 16  wherein, the blades from the release mechanism and the payload are substantially orthogonal. 
     
     
         18 . A method for delivering a payload into the body of an animal comprising:
 (i) providing a combination arrow tip assembly comprising a payload;   (ii) providing a release mechanism associated with the tip assembly device;   (iii) directing the combination arrow tip assembly toward the target animal in such a way that the release mechanism causes the payload to tag the target animal.   
     
     
         19 . A payload delivery apparatus comprising;
 (i) a combination arrow tip assembly and a payload, the tip assembly having a release mechanism;   (ii) wherein the payload is at least partially disposed within and held by the tip assembly and   (iii) a recovery system that allows for the payload to be recovered using a string.
