Abstract
The present invention relates to artificial tear compositions and ophthalmic compositions suitable for drug delivery. In one embodiment of the present invention, the compositions comprise a galactomannan polymer such as guar or hydroxypropyl guar, hyaluronic acid, and a cis-diol such as sorbitol. In a preferred embodiment, the compositions also comprise a borate compound.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . An ophthalmic composition comprising 0.1 to 0.2 w/v % galactomannan, 0.05 to 0.5 w/v % hyaluronic acid, and 1.0 to 2.0 w/v % cis-diol.
2 . A composition according to claim 1 comprising 0.17 to 0.18 w/v % guar, 0.13 to 0.17 w/v % sodium hyaluronate, and 1.4 w/v % sorbitol.
3 . A composition according to claim 1 wherein said galactomannan is selected from the group consisting of:
guar, hydroxylpropyl guar, and combinations thereof.
4 . A composition according to claim 1 wherein said cis-diol is selected from the group consisting of sorbitol, mannitol, polyethylene glycols, polypropylene glycols, polyethyleneoxide-polybutyleneoxide block copolymers, and combinations thereof.
5 . A composition according to claim 1 wherein said cis-diol is sorbitol or mannitol.
6 . A composition according to claim 5 wherein said cis-diol is present at a concentration of about 1.4 w/v %.
7 . A composition according to claim 1 wherein said borate is boric acid.
8 . A composition according to claim 1 further comprising a demulcent selected from the group consisting of:
glycerin, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, polyethylene oxide, polyethylene glycol, propylene glycol, polyacrylic acid, and combinations thereof.
9 . A composition according to claim 8 wherein said demulcent is polypropylene glycol or polyethylene glycol.
10 . A composition according to claim 1 further comprising a pharmaceutically active compound.
11 . A method for treating ophthalmic disease which comprises administering to a subject in need of such treatment a composition according to claim 1 .
12 . A method according to claim 10 , wherein the ophthalmic disease is dry eye.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
