Abstract

A method and a system that associate items offered by sellers and others with selected categories within a network-based system are provided. The method and system may operate to include receiving a request including an item identification having at least one token, parsing the item identification to identify the token, and assigning a token weight to the token based on a total number of items offered at a site and a number of items offered at the site and associated with the token.

         1 . A system, including:
 at least one application server to host a search component to locate items for sale; and   a database component operatively coupled to the search component, the database component including the items for sale, wherein at least some of the items for sale have been matched to item categories and/or attributes derived from at least one token weight determined in accordance with a ratio of a total number of the items for sale and a number of the items for sale that are associated with a common token.
