Abstract

A solvent based flue gas processing system for removing CO 2 from a flue gas stream is described. A catalyst is provided to increase the efficiency of the solvent in capturing CO 2 from the flue gas stream or in regenerating the solvent.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed:

1 . A mixed gas processing system comprising:
a regeneration vessel configured to receive a carbon rich solvent stream and a catalyst, wherein the catalyst promotes the release of carbon dioxide within the carbon rich solvent stream

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the catalyst is a homogeneous catalyst.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the catalyst is a heterogeneous catalyst.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein said mixed gas system is an amine based mixed gas processing system.

5 . The system of claim 1 wherein said mixed gas system is an ammonia based mixed gas processing system.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the catalyst promotes decomposition of products formed from the carbonation/bi-carbonation and carbomation of amine with CO2.

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the catalyst includes organo-metallic complex catalysts.

8 . The system of claim 1 , further including a heat source to heat the carbon rich solvent stream in the regeneration vessel.

9 . A process for removing carbon dioxide from a mixed gas, the process comprising:
passing a carbon rich solvent stream and a catalyst through a regeneration vessel, wherein the catalyst promotes the release of carbon dioxide within the carbon rich solvent stream.

10 . The process of claim 9 , wherein the catalyst is a homogeneous catalyst.

11 . The process of claim 9 , wherein the catalyst is a heterogeneous catalyst.

12 . The process of claim 9 , wherein said mixed gas system is an amine based mixed gas processing system.

13 . The process of claim 9 , wherein said mixed gas system is an ammonia based mixed gas processing system.

14 . The process of claim 9 , wherein the catalyst promotes the decomposition of products formed from the carbonation/bi-carbonation and carbomation of amine with CO2.

15 . The process of claim 9 , wherein the catalyst includes organo-metallic complex catalysts.

16 . The process of claim 9 , further including heating the carbon rich solvent stream in the regeneration vessel.

17 . A mixed gas processing system comprising:
regeneration vessel configured to receive a carbon dioxide rich solvent stream; and packing material disposed in the regeneration vessel, wherein the packing material is coated/immobilized with a catalyst to promote the release of carbon dioxide within the carbon rich solvent stream.

18 . The system of claim 17 , wherein the catalyst is a homogeneous catalyst.

19 . The system of claim 17 , wherein the catalyst is a heterogeneous catalyst.

20 . The system of claim 17 , wherein the catalyst promotes decomposition of products formed from the carbonation/bi-carbonation and carbomation of amine with CO2.
