Abstract

A telecommunication system implements a method for providing a targeted on-line advertisement to a user accessing a content provider node of the system. The system further comprises an ad selection node and an user identification node. A user signal indicative of an information request is routed through the system to determine a geographic location of the user and/or a demographic profile of the geographic location. An advertiser corresponding to the geographic location and/or demographic profile is thereafter communicated to the user.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
We claim:

1 . A method of receiving targeted advertisements from a broadcast content provider, the method comprising:
selecting a content channel at a user device node; receiving a broadcast content signal at the user device node from a broadcast content provider node based on the selected content channel; receiving multiple broadcast advertisement signals at the user device node; determining at least one current demographic associated with the user device node; selecting one broadcast advertisement signal from the multiple broadcast advertisement signals at the user device node based on the determined demographic; and providing the advertisement associated with the selected broadcast advertisement signal at the user device node.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the broadcast content signal comprises the multiple broadcast advertisement signals.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the multiple broadcast advertisement signals are broadcast simultaneously.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein a multiplexed channel comprises the multiple broadcast advertisement signals.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the multiplexed channel is time-division multiplexed.

6 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the multiplexed channel is code-division multiplexed.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein each broadcast advertisement signal is associated with one or more demographics.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the user device node utilizes GPS for determining the at least one current demographic.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the broadcast content signal includes an indication that an advertisement is to be served.

10 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
associating a user profile with the user device node, wherein determining at least one current demographic is based on the user profile.

11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the content channel is provided on a subscription basis from the broadcast content provider.

12 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising:
associating a user profile with the user device node, wherein determining at least one current demographic is based on the user profile, wherein the user profile is associated with a user subscription to the broadcast content provider.

13 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the broadcast content signal is a radio broadcast.

14 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the radio broadcast is a satellite radio broadcast.

15 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the broadcast content signal is a digital television broadcast.

16 . A user device for receiving targeted advertisements from a broadcast content provider, the user device comprising:
a processor; and a processor-readable storage medium, the processor-readable storage medium comprising processor-executable program code for executing a method comprising: selecting a content channel; receiving a broadcast content signal from a broadcast content provider node based on the selected content channel; receiving multiple broadcast advertisement signals; determining at least one current demographic associated with the user device; selecting one broadcast advertisement signal from the multiple broadcast advertisement signals based on the determined demographic; and providing the advertisement associated with the selected broadcast advertisement signal.

17 . A method of delivering targeted advertisements from a broadcast content provider, the method comprising:
broadcasting content from a broadcast content provider node, wherein the content comprises multiple broadcast advertisement signals; selecting a content channel at a user device node; receiving a broadcast content signal at the user device node from a broadcast content provider node based on the selected content channel; receiving multiple broadcast advertisement signals at the user device node; determining at least one current demographic associated with the user device node; selecting one broadcast advertisement signal from the multiple broadcast advertisement signals at the user device node based on the determined demographic; and providing the advertisement associated with the selected broadcast advertisement signal at the user device node.

18 . The method of claim 17 , wherein a multiplexed channel comprises the multiple broadcast advertisement signals.

19 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the content channel is provided on a subscription basis from the broadcast content provider.

20 . The method of claim 19 , further comprising:
associating a user profile with the user device node, wherein determining at least one current demographic is based on the user profile, wherein the user profile is associated with a user subscription to the broadcast content provider.
