Abstract

A combination biocide (Glutaraldehyde or OPA), quaternary phosphonium biocide (preferably TTPC), alcohol (preferably isopropyl alcohol), and functional excipients for the oil and gas recovery industry. The functional excipients for the oil and gas recovery industry are a cellulose type proppant, a poloxamer wetting agent, a friction-reducing pluronic block copolymer, a drag reducing agent such as polyethylene oxide, and a flocculating agent. The OPA may be of the dialdehyde C 6 H 4 (CHO) 2 form, and the Glutaraldehyde of formula C 5 H 8 O 2 . Both will produce an inherent bacteriostatic effect and lower surface tension and thus aids in the spread of the TTPC on the biofilm covered surface where it is readily absorbed by the negative surfaces of proteins and bacteria. It thus serves as a binding agent between the TTPC and the application surface. The foregoing constituents are combined in preferred concentrations within acceptable ranges to provide a synergistic biological chemical complementarity system.

I claim: 
     
         1 . A biocidal formulation comprising a quaternary phosphonium biocide, isopropyl alcohol, and excipient constituents. 
     
     
         2 . The biocidal formulation according to  claim 1 , wherein said quaternary phosphonium biocide is tetrakis (hydroxymethyl) phosphonium sulfate (THPS). 
     
     
         3 . The biocidal formulation according to  claim 1 , wherein said quaternary phosphonium biocide is tributyl tetradecyl phosphonium chloride (TTPC). 
     
     
         4 . The biocidal formulation of  claim 3 , further comprising an aldehyde selected from the group consisting of glutaraldehyde and orthophthalaldehyde. 
     
     
         5 . The biocidal formulation of  claim 4 , wherein said aldehyde is orthophthalaldehyde within a range of 7% to 0.25% and said TTPC is within a range of from 50 ppm to 1000 ppm. 
     
     
         6 . The biocidal formulation of  claim 1 , wherein said isopropyl alcohol is within a range of from 15% to 41%. 
     
     
         7 . A biocidal formulation comprising chlorine dioxide (ClO 2 ), a quaternary phosphonium biocide, and excipient constituents. 
     
     
         8 . The biocidal formulation according to  claim 7 , wherein said quaternary phosphonium biocide is tetrakis (hydroxymethyl) phosphonium sulfate (THPS). 
     
     
         9 . The biocidal formulation according to  claim 7 , wherein said quaternary phosphonium biocide is tributyl tetradecyl phosphonium chloride (TTPC). 
     
     
         10 . The biocidal formulation of  claim 7 , wherein said ClO 2  is within a range of from 5-500 ppm, and said TTPC is within a range of from 10-500 ppm. 
     
     
         11 . The biocidal formulation of  claim 7 , further comprising an aldehyde selected from the group consisting of glutaraldehyde and orthophthalaldehyde, isopropyl alcohol, a proppant comprising a cellulosic compound selected from the group consisting of methylcellulose, ethylcellulose and hydroxyethylcellulose, a pluronic block copolymer, a flocculating agent, and water. 
     
     
         12 . The biocidal formulation of  claim 11 , wherein said aldehyde is orthophthalaldehyde within a range of 7% to 0.25% and said TTPC is within a range of from 50 ppm to 1000 ppm. 
     
     
         13 . The biocidal formulation of  claim 11 , wherein said aldehyde is glutaraldehyde within a range of 25% to 0.25% and said TTPC is within a range of from 50 ppm to 1000 ppm. 
     
     
         14 . The biocidal formulation of  claim 11 , further comprising isopropyl alcohol within a range of from 15% to 41%.
