Loose tea brewing lid

Abstract

A cover for a container in which the cover is formed with a first opening to which a mesh pouch is secured to hold fragments of tea leaves or other infusible consumable products. The opening is positioned on one side of a diameter of the cover with a remote sip hole in the cover. A second opening in the cover provides for inclusion of other ingredients and stirring the beverage.

Having now described my invention, I claim: 
     
         1 . A cover for attachment to a container, the cover comprising:
 a membrane shaped to cover and engage an open top of the container;   a periphery extending from the membrane and shaped to removably engage a rim at the open top of the container, the periphery having a distal edge defining a plane;   a first opening in the membrane;   a mesh forming a pouch, sized to receive and hold materials from which flavors are extracted and to permit liquid to pass through the pouch and materials to infuse the liquid, the pouch being foldable or flattenable under an underside of the membrane and not extending beyond the plane of the periphery,   the pouch being secured to one side of the membrane;   a lid shaped and sized to access and close the first opening; and   a sip hole in the membrane spaced from the first opening for removal of infused liquid from the covered container.   
     
     
         2 . The cover of  claim 1 , wherein the pouch formed by the mesh is secured to a border of the first opening. 
     
     
         3 . The cover of  claim 1 , wherein the membrane has a second opening shaped and sized to permit stirring of the liquid. 
     
     
         4 . The cover of  claim 1 , wherein the first opening extends across a portion of the membrane, at least primarily on one side of a diameter thereof. 
     
     
         5 . The cover of  claim 4 , wherein the pouch may be extended into the cup from the plane of the membrane to allow the materials in the pouch to be infused by liquid in the container. 
     
     
         6 . The cover of  claim 5 , wherein the sip hole is positioned in the membrane remote from the first opening. 
     
     
         7 . The cover of  claim 6 , wherein the periphery has a depending peripheral flange shaped and sized to engage the outside of the rim of the container. 
     
     
         8 . The cover of  claim 7 , wherein the lid has a depending peripheral edge shaped and sized to close the first opening, the lid being hinged to the membrane. 
     
     
         9 . The cover of  claim 8 , wherein the first opening is bordered by a flange depending from the membrane with the edge of the pouch secured thereto. 
     
     
         10 . A stack of covers as set forth in  claim 1 , wherein the lids are closed and the pouch is flattened or folded against the underside of the membrane. 
     
     
         11 . The stack of covers of  claim 10  wherein the pouch contains tea leaves. 
     
     
         12 . The cover of  claim 3 , wherein the first opening extends across a portion of the membrane, at least primarily on one side of a diameter thereof. 
     
     
         13 . The cover of  claim 12 , wherein the pouch may be extended into the cup from the plane of the membrane to allow the materials in the pouch to be infused by liquid in the container.
