Above-ground planting beds
Abstract
A non-cylindrical planting bed in rectangular, square or oval configuration for containing plant growth media and plants. The bed has a bottom wall, an exterior side wall, and either one or two semi-cylindrical walls inside and secured to the outer wall, or two cylindrical walls either wholly inside or having a portion forming a portion of the exterior side wall for strengthening of the bed. In forms having two cylindrical or two semi-cylindrical inner walls, cross walls may extend across the bed between straight side wall portions of the side wall to strengthen the straight side wall portions against outward displacement when the bed is filled with plant growth media.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . An above-ground planting bed comprising:
a non-circular bottom wall; a non-cylindrical outer side wall secured to said bottom wall; at least one cylindrical inner wall of generally circular cross-section secured tangentially to said outer side wall; and each of said walls being formed from air and moisture permeable collapsible fabric.
2 . An above-ground planting bed according to claim 1 and characterized further in that said fabric is a non-woven, needle-punched polymeric geotextile fabric.
3 . An above-ground planting bed according to claim 2 and characterized further in that said polymeric fabric is a polypropylene fabric.
4 . An above-ground planting bed according to claim 1 and characterized further in that said walls are flexible and substantially non-freestanding for ease of collapsing and folding.
5 . An above-ground planting bed according to claim 1 and characterized further in that said non-cylindrical bottom wall is generally square and said side wall is secured to said square bottom wall to define a four-sided generally square bed configuration, and said cylindrical inner wall is secured tangentially to the four sides of said outer wall.
6 . An above-ground planting bed comprising:
a generally oval bottom wall; an outer wall secured to said bottom wall and having generally semi-cylindrical end portions and generally straight intermediate side portions forming a generally oval configuration; two tangentially contiguous semi-cylindrical inner walls having outer ends secured to the ends of said semi-cylindrical end portions to form therewith cylindrical walls; and said walls being formed from air and moisture permeable and collapsible fabric.
7 . An above-ground planting bed according to claim 6 and characterized further in that said semi-cylindrical end portions and said straight side portions are formed integrally from a single length of said fabric.
8 . An above-ground planting bed according to claim 6 and characterized further by across wall extending interiorly laterally across said bed from and secured to said straight portions of said side wall, said cross wall retaining said straight side wall portions substantially straight when the bed is filled with plant growth.
9 . An above-ground planting bed according to claim 8 and characterized further by said cross wall extending interiorly laterally from the tangential contiguity of said semi-cylindrical walls to said straight side wall portions.
10 . An above-ground planting bed according to claim 6 and characterized further by reinforcing cylindrical walls disposed in the spaces between and secured tangentially contiguous to said straight side wall portions and both semi-cylindrical walls to retain said straight side wall portions substantially straight when said bed is filled with plant growth media.
11 . An above ground planting bed comprising:
a generally oval bottom wall; an outer wall secured to said bottom wall and having generally semi-cylindrical end portions and generally straight intermediate side portions extending between said end portions; and two tangentially contiguous cylindrical walls having outer semi-cylindrical portions forming said semi-cylindrical end portions of said outer walls.
12 . An above-ground planting bed according to claim 11 and characterized further by a cross wall extending interiorly laterally across said bed from and secured to said straight portions of said side wall, said cross wall retaining said straight side wall portions substantially straight when the bed is filled with plant growth.
13 . An above-ground planting bed according to claim 12 and characterized further by said cross wall extending interiorly laterally from the tangential contiguity of said semi-cylindrical walls to said straight side wall portions.
14 . An above-ground planting bed according to claim 11 and characterized further by reinforcing cylindrical walls disposed in the spaces between and secured tangentially contiguous to said straight side wall portions and both semi-cylindrical walls to retain said straight side wall portions substantially straight when said bed is filled with plant growth media.
15 . An above-ground planting bed, comprising:
a generally rectangular bottom wall; an outer four sided side wall secured to said bottom wall and forming with said bottom wall a generally rectangular bed with generally rounded corners, said outer wall having opposed straight end portions and opposed straight side portions; two tangentially contiguous cylindrical inner walls forming a generally figure eight configuration, each said cylindrical inner wall being tangentially secured to said opposed side portions and to an adjacent end portion; and said walls being formed from air and moisture permeable, collapsible fabric.
16 . An above-ground planting bed according to claim 15 and characterized further by a cross wall extending interiorly laterally across said bed from and secured to opposed straight side wall portions, said cross wall retaining said straight side wall portions substantially straight when said bed is filled with plant growth media.
17 . An above-ground planting bed according to claim 16 and characterized further by said interior cross wall extending interiorly laterally from the contiguity of said cylindrical inner walls to said straight side wall portions.
18 . An above-ground planting bed according to claim 15 and characterized further in that said cylindrical walls are primary cylindrical walls, and by reinforcing cylindrical walls disposed in spaces between and tangentially contiguously secured to said straight side wall portions and said primary cylindrical walls to retain said straight side wall portions substantially straight when said bed is filled with plant growth media.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
