Compositions comprising flavonoid-containing extracts from plants of the genus citrus and/or isolated citrus flavonoids and specific cationic surface active agents, and said composition for use as an agent for treating infestations with head lice

Abstract

A composition having anti-lice properties comprising effective amounts of at least one monoalkyl and/or dialkyl quat and/or amidoquat in combination with flavonoid-containing extracts obtained from Citrus plants and/or one or more isolated Citrus flavonoids. Advantages are: said preparation has strong physical insecticidal effects and facilitates the removal of lice eggs and nits from the hair.

1 . A composition which comprises a flavonoid-containing extract from plants of the genus  Citrus  and/or one or more isolated  Citrus  flavonoids in combination with at least one cationic surface-active agent selected from the group consisting of quaternary ammonium salts having one or two linear saturated C 8-26  alkyl chain(s) (monoalkyl or dialkyl quats) and/or quaternary ammonium salts having one linear saturated or unsaturated C 8-26  fatty acid being bound to the ammonium nitrogen via an amide bond (amido quats). 
     
     
         2 . A composition according to  claim 1  wherein the  Citrus  plants are selected from the group consisting of grapefruit, pomelo, orange, bitter orange, bergamot orange, blood orange, lemon, key lime, lime, clementine, satsuma, tangelo, tangerine, mandarin orange and kumquat. 
     
     
         3 . A composition according to  claim 1  and/or wherein the one or more flavonoids are selected from the group consisting of naringin, naringenin, hesperetin and hesperidin. 
     
     
         4 . A composition according to  claim 1  or  2  wherein the  Citrus  plant extract is obtained from grapefruit ( Citrus paradisi ). 
     
     
         5 . Composition according to one or more of  claims 1  to  4  wherein the quat is an amidoquat, in particular palmitamidopropyltrimonium chloride. 
     
     
         6 . A composition according to one or more of  claims 1  to  5  additionally comprising one or more of the ingredients selected from the group consisting of insect killing substances and further additives. 
     
     
         7 . A composition according to any of  claims 1  to  6  which is formulated as a medicinal product selected from the group consisting of shampoo, spray, aerosol, lotion, hair conditioner, gel, mousse or powder, or as a household agent selected form the group consisting of washing solution, immersion solution, spray or powder for treatment of textiles, beddings, carpets or furniture. 
     
     
         8 . Composition as defined in any of  claims 1  to  7  for use as a medicinal product. 
     
     
         9 . Composition as defined in any of  claims 1  to  7  for use as a pharmaceutical product. 
     
     
         10 . Composition as defined in any of  claims 1  to  7  for use as a cosmetic product. 
     
     
         11 . Composition as defined in any of  claims 1  to  7  for use in a cosmetic method for treating infestation with head lice. 
     
     
         12 . Composition as defined in any of  claims 1  to  7  for use in a medical treatment of infestation with head lice.
