Abstract
The present invention provides techniques for managing process space on a multi-tenant database system that features a method that provides to multiple users of two or more organizations, over a network, access to information stored in a database repository shared by the two or more organizations. The database repository implements security protocols to restrict a set of first users to a first sub-portion of the information. The set of first users belongs to one of the two or more organizations. The first sub-portion of the information is different from a second sub-portion accessible by users from another organization. Access of the information by the multiple users is monitored. A first processing space for the set of first users is generated in response to the access of the database repository. The first processing space is distinct from a second processing space for the users from the other organization.

1 . A method of managing process space on a multi-tenant database system, the method comprising:
over a network, providing, to multiple users from two or more organizations, access to information stored in a database repository shared by the two or more organizations, wherein the database repository implements security protocols to restrict a set of first users to a first sub-portion of the information, the set of first users belonging to one of the two or more organizations and the first sub-portion of the information is different from a second sub-portion accessible by users from an other organization; monitoring the access of the information by the multiple users; and generating a first processing space for the set of first users in response to the access of the database repository, the first processing space being distinct from a second processing space for the users from the other organization.
2 . The method as recited in claim 1 wherein generating further includes establishing a virtual machine upon a server to implement an application server.
3 . The method as recited in claim 1 wherein generating further includes establishing a plurality of virtual machines upon a server to implement an application server.
4 . The method as recited in claim 1 wherein providing further includes establishing a plurality of virtual machines upon a plurality of servers to implement a common application server.
5 . The method as recited in claim 1 wherein providing further includes establishing a plurality of virtual machines upon a plurality of servers to implement a plurality of application servers.
6 . The method as recited in claim 1 wherein generating further includes augmenting a pool of servers available to the multiple users.
7 . The method as recited in claim 1 wherein generating further includes diminishing a pool of servers available to the multiple users.
8 . The method as recited in claim 1 wherein providing further includes establishing a virtual machine upon a server to implement an application server, with varying further including providing additional instances of the virtual machine.
9 . The method as recited in claim 1 wherein providing further includes establishing a pool of virtual machines to implement an application server, with varying further including diminishing a number of the virtual machines in the pool.
10 . A machine-readable medium carrying one or more sequences of instructions for managing process space on a multi-tenant database system when executed by one or more processors and cause the one or more processors to carry out steps of:
over a network, providing, to multiple users from two or more organizations, access to information stored in a database repository shared by the two or more organizations, wherein the database repository implements security protocols to restrict a set of first users to a first sub-portion of the information, the set of first users belonging to one of the two or more organizations and the first sub-portion of the information being different from a second sub-portion accessible by users from an other organization; monitoring the access of the information by the multiple users; and generating a first processing space for the set of first users in response to the access of the database repository, the first processing space being distinct from a second processing space for the users from the other organization.
11 . The machine readable medium of claim 10 wherein the instructions to carry out the step of generating further includes instructions to carry out a step of establishing a virtual machine upon a server to implement an application server.
12 . The machine readable medium of claim 10 wherein the instructions to carry out the step of generating further includes instructions to carry out a step of establishing a plurality of virtual machines upon a server to implement an application server.
13 . The machine readable medium of claim 10 wherein the instructions to carry out the step of providing further includes instructions to carry out a step of establishing a plurality of virtual machines upon a plurality of servers to implement a common application server.

19 . A data center for storing information on a multi-tenant database system to control query latency, the data center comprising:
a processor; and a memory space having a sequence of instructions which, when executed by the processor, causes the processor to carry out the steps of: over a network, providing, to multiple users from two or more organizations, access to information stored in a database repository shared by the two or more organizations, wherein the database repository implements security protocols to restrict a set of first users to a first sub-portion of the information, the set of first users belonging to one of the two or more organizations and the first sub-portion of the information being different from a second sub-portion accessible by users from an other organization; monitoring the access of the information by the multiple users; and generating a first processing space for the set of first users in response to the access of the database repository, the first processing space being distinct from a second processing space for the users from the other organization.
