Method for processing multimodal mobile donations via text message and email communication

Abstract

A donation processing system receives a text message from a donor indicating that they would like to make a donation to a non-profit organization. In response to the text message, a response message indicating the particulars of the donation including the donation amount and the non-profit organization is sent to the user. The donor reviews the information and, if the information is correct, a confirmation message is sent from the donor in response to the response message. The confirmation message confirms the donation. The donation is then made to the non-profit organization in response to the confirmation message.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A donation processing system comprising:
 at least one processing device configured to receive a text message from a mobile device; wherein the text message is associated with a donation request to a non-profit organization from a user of the mobile device;   the at least one processing device is further configured to transmit a response message, in response to the text message; wherein the response message includes information indicating a donation amount to the non-profit organization; and   the at least one processing device is further configured to receive a confirmation message, in response to the response message; and   the at least one processing device is further configured to initiate a donation from an account of the user in response to the confirmation message.   
     
     
         2 . The donation processing system of  claim 1  wherein the at least one processing device is further configured to identify an account of the user in response to an originating number of the text message. 
     
     
         3 . The donation processing system of  claim 1  wherein the at least one processing device is further configured to parse the text message to identify an account of the user based an account identifier included in a body of the text message. 
     
     
         4 . The donation processing system of  claim 1  wherein the at least one processing device is further configured to parse the text message to identify an amount of the donation. 
     
     
         5 . The donation processing system of  claim 1  wherein the at least one processing device is further configured to parse the text message to identify a non-profit organization associated with the donation. 
     
     
         6 . The donation processing system of  claim 1  wherein the response message is sent to the mobile device using a text message. 
     
     
         7 . The donation processing system of  claim 1  wherein the response message is sent to using an email message. 
     
     
         8 . A method for donation processing comprising:
 receiving, by a processing device, a text message, by a processing device, from a mobile device; wherein the text message is associated with a donation request to a non-profit organization from a user of the mobile device;   transmitting, by a processing device, in response to the text message, a response message; wherein the response message includes information indicating a donation amount to the non-profit organization; and   receiving, by a processing device, in response to the response message, a confirmation message; and   initiating, by a processing device, a donation from an account of the user in response to the confirmation message.   
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 8  further comprising identifying an account of the user in response to an originating number of the text message. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 8  further comprising parsing the text message to identify an account of the user based an account identifier included in a body of the text message. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 8  further comprising parsing the text message to identify an amount of the donation. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 8  further comprising parsing the text message to identify a non-profit organization associated with the donation. 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 8  wherein the response message is transmitted to the mobile devise as a text message. 
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 8  wherein the response message is transmitted as an email message. 
     
     
         15 . A method comprising:
 transmitting a text message from a mobile device for a user to donate to a non-profit organization; wherein the text message includes a destination number or address;   receiving, in response to the text message, a response message indicating the donation to the non-profit organization;   transmitting, in response to the response message and a user input, a confirmation message indicating that the information message in the response message is correct; wherein a donation is made to the non-profit organization in response to the confirmation message.   
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 15  wherein a number to the mobile device is associated with an account that the donation is to be charged. 
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 15  wherein information in a body of the text message indicates an account that the donation is to be charged. 
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 15  wherein information in a body of the text message indicates an amount of the donation. 
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 15  wherein information in a body of the text message indicates an organization that the donation is to be sent. 
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 15  wherein the response message is sent to the mobile device using a text message. 
     
     
         21 . The method of  claim 15  wherein the response message is sent to a device associated with the user using an email message.
