Claims

Abstract

A hemostatic device includes a flexible band adapted to be wrapped around a patient's limb at a site on the limb where bleeding is to be stopped, a portion for securing the band in a wrapped state to the limb, a curved plate which is made of a material more rigid than the band and at least a portion of which is curved toward the inner peripheral side thereof, a main balloon which is provided on the inner peripheral side of the curved plate and which inflates when a fluid is introduced therein, and a pressing member which is provided between the curved plate and the main balloon so that at least a portion thereof overlaps with the balloon and which is adapted for pressing against the balloon. The device provides an excellent hemostatic effect and prevents numbness and poor circulation in areas peripheral to the site of attachment.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A hemostatic device comprising:
 a flexible band for wrapping around a wrist of a user;   a fastener to secure the flexible band in a wrapped state;   a plate having an inner surface and an outer surface, at least a part of the inner surface defining a concave curved portion;   a main balloon,
 wherein the main balloon is inflatable, and positioned near one end of the plate in the lengthwise direction and at least in part within the concave curved portion, and 
 wherein only one end of the main balloon is connected to the flexible band; and a pressing member for pressing against the balloon. 
   
     
     
         2 . The hemostatic device of  claim 1 , wherein the pressing member is a second inflatable balloon, which when inflated, presses against the main balloon. 
     
     
         3 . The hemostatic device of  claim 1 , wherein the fastener is a hook and loop fastener. 
     
     
         4 . The hemostatic device of  claim 1 , further comprising a marker for positioning the main balloon at a site where bleeding is to be stopped. 
     
     
         5 . The hemostatic device of  claim 1 , wherein after inflation, the internal pressure of the main balloon decreases over time without manual intervention, so that the internal pressure decreases by about 20% to about 70% within 60 minutes. 
     
     
         6 . The hemostatic device of  claim 1 , wherein the flexible band is made from a substantially transparent material. 
     
     
         7 . The hemostatic device of  claim 6 , wherein the main balloon is made from a substantially transparent material. 
     
     
         8 . The hemostatic device of  claim 7 , wherein the pressing member is made from a substantially transparent material. 
     
     
         9 . The hemostatic device of  claim 1 , wherein a portion of the main balloon and a portion of the pressing member are joined together. 
     
     
         10 . The hemostatic device of  claim 2 , wherein the second inflatable balloon, when inflated, assumes a tilted orientation relative to the main balloon. 
     
     
         11 . The hemostatic device of  claim 1 , wherein the pressing member is smaller in size than the main balloon. 
     
     
         12 . A hemostatic device comprising:
 a flexible band for wrapping around a wrist of a user;   a fastener to secure the flexible band in a wrapped state;   a plate having an inner surface and an outer surface, at least a part of the inner surface defining a concave curved portion;   an inflatable balloon positioned near one end of the plate in the lengthwise direction, positioned at least in part within the concave curved portion, and connected to the flexible band at only one end.   
     
     
         13 . The hemostatic device of  claim 12 , further comprising a pressing member. 
     
     
         14 . The hemostatic device of  claim 13 , wherein a portion of the inflatable balloon and a portion of the pressing member are joined together. 
     
     
         15 . The hemostatic device of  claim 12 , wherein the flexible band is made from a substantially transparent material. 
     
     
         16 . The hemostatic device of  claim 12 , wherein the plate is made from a substantially transparent material. 
     
     
         17 . The hemostatic device of  claim 12 , wherein the inflatable balloon is made from a substantially transparent material. 
     
     
         18 . The hemostatic device of  claim 12 , further comprising a marker for positioning the inflatable balloon at a site where bleeding is to be stopped. 
     
     
         19 . A hemostatic device comprising:
 a flexible band for wrapping around a wrist of a user, wherein the band is made from a substantially transparent material;   a fastener to secure the flexible band in a wrapped state;   a plate made from a substantially transparent material and having an inner surface and an outer surface, at least a part of the inner surface defining a concave curved portion;   an inflatable balloon positioned near one end of the plate in the lengthwise direction and positioned at least in part within the concave curved portion, and wherein after inflation, the internal pressure of the inflatable balloon decreases over time without manual intervention.   
     
     
         20 . The hemostatic device of  claim 19 , further comprising a pressing member. 
     
     
         21 . The hemostatic device of  claim 20 , wherein a portion of the inflatable balloon and a portion of the pressing member are joined together. 
     
     
         22 . The hemostatic device of  claim 19 , wherein the inflatable balloon is made from a substantially transparent material. 
     
     
         23 . A hemostatic device comprising:
 a flexible band for wrapping around a wrist of a user;   a fastener to secure the flexible band in a wrapped state;   a plate having an inner surface and an outer surface, at least a part of the inner surface defining a concave curved portion;   a main balloon,   wherein the main balloon is inflatable, and positioned near one end of the plate in the lengthwise direction and positioned at least in part within the concave curved portion; and   a second inflatable balloon, wherein the second inflatable balloon assumes a tilted orientation when, inflated, relative to the main balloon.   
     
     
         24 . The hemostatic device of  claim 23 , wherein a portion of the main balloon and a portion of the second inflatable balloon are joined together. 
     
     
         25 . The hemostatic device of  claim 23 , wherein the main balloon is made from a substantially transparent material. 
     
     
         26 . The hemostatic device of  claim 23 , wherein the flexible band, plate, main balloon, and second inflatable balloon are made from a substantially transparent material. 
     
     
         27 . A hemostatic kit comprising the device of  claim 1  and an inflation syringe. 
     
     
         28 . A hemostatic kit comprising the device of  claim 12  and an inflation syringe. 
     
     
         29 . A hemostatic kit comprising the device of  claim 19  and an inflation syringe. 
     
     
         30 . A hemostatic kit comprising the device of  claim 23  and an inflation syringe.
