Abstract

This document provides methods and materials relating to obesity. For example, methods and materials related to treating obesity and identifying agents having the ability to treat obesity are provided.

         10 . A method for treating a mammal having an obesity condition, wherein said method comprises administering, to said mammal, a CD38 antagonist. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein said mammal is a human. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein said antagonist is administered to said mammal in an amount, at a frequency, and for a duration effective to reduce the weight of said mammal by at least 10 percent. 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein said antagonist is administered to said mammal in an amount, at a frequency, and for a duration effective to reduce the weight of said mammal by at least 20 percent. 
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein said antagonist is administered to said mammal in an amount, at a frequency, and for a duration effective to reduce the weight of said mammal by at least 25 percent. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein said antagonist is nicotinamide. 
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein said antagonist is nicotinic acid.
